We're coming to CA in October. (Columbus Day week) Planning to go to Santa Monica Pier on Saturday when we get there then go to some???? beach Sunday. Monday going to Hollywood and then heading to Disneyland Tuesday for the rest of the week. The hardest thing I'm having trouble with is finding a beach that has an oceanfront hotel on the beach (not across the street ) that has a balcony and a pool. I've looked all up and down the coast. The only thing I have found is the Pacific Edge in Laguna Beach. I don't want to stay across the street because I want to hear the ocean, not the traffic. I'd like to stay in Santa Monica or Huntington but couldn't find a hotel that meets all of my "wants". What is your opinion? Laguna Beach is far from Disney and Hollywood. I'd really like my teens to see the Pacific Ocean and the big waves. They have only seen the Atlantic Ocean. Any recommendations?? Any advice is welcomed.

You're not likely to find one like that around there. The only hotel I can think of that matches your requirements is the Hotel Del Coronado, but that's near San Diego.

I believe that a lot of the coastal land is government owned in long stretches.

Agreed we have stayed in both Huntington Beach and Santa Barbara and in both cases
the hotels were across the road. BTW we had a great time . We also stayed at the Del but it is a good 90 minutes with no traffic from DL

Could you hear the traffic?

I like it:)

I looked up the location. There's a lot between the hotel and the closest beach. There's a city park and the closest beach is a state beach. Nice view though. There's also Dana Point Harbor Drive towards the ocean and Pacific Coast Highway on the other side.

Would this hotel meet your needs? Marriott Laguna Cliffs: http://www.lagunacliffs.com

Freakin' A..... it isn't in Laguna, on a cliff, or even near a beach really, let alone ON the beach.

Casa del Mar & Loews Santa Monica are better choices by far. Even the Hyatt Regency & Hilton in Huntington Beach are better choices. Also Inn at Laguna Beach, Surf & Sand in Laguna Beach and The Riviera in Laguna Beach.

In no way is there any way of knowing what the surf will be like Oct, big (as in big by West Coast standards) doesn't happen that often.
