I've been seeing several references to the souvenir cup for the drink of the day. How does this work? Can you refill with any drink? Or does it have to be the drink of the day?

This could be a game changer! :)

Only the drink of the day will ve discounted with the cup. The cup is $9-10 with a drink. The. It can be refilled for drink of the day prices.

Maybe it's noted somehow on your account when they charge you each time? Maybe someone can chime in.

If it's like the beer mug, you can trade your cup in at any bar for a token. Then you just present that token at any bar the next time you want a drink. Upon debarkation, you can then redeem your token for the souvenir cup to take home. Then you have to remember to pack that cup for your next cruise.

Unlike the beer mugs, the drink of the day cup is just a plastic hurricane cup if I remember correctly. You do not turn in for a token, you have to bring it up to the bar every time.

Yes it is a plastic hurricane glass and there is no token as far as I know. However it's easy to throw in your beach bag. When given to the bartender they always gave me a fresh glass (washed) which then I kept and exchanged again.. However sometimes I asked for them not to give me a new glass because I wanted to keep the color I had (I know... ;)
The drink of the day cost $4.65 in the hurricane glass and the first one was about $8.50-$9.00.
When I got a non drink of the day in this glass I paid $9.50. It was not discounted unless you got the drink of the day.
Tip: You will get a much better tasting drink of the day if you go to a bar away from the pool area - at one of the lounges or even adult swim up bar. The bartender will then mix it just for you, whereas by the pool they have it pre-mixed in a big jug or something. It seems more watered down.

We thought they were a great deal, especially since we aren't "drinkers". This way, we could try the drink of the day and share it. But, it's also not a TON of alcohol or drink.
That's just the thing.... when I ordered the drink of the day at a lounge (say one of the nightclubs) or lobby bar.. I was tipsy after having 2 of them. I remember sitting down and having 2 drinks of the day before dinner watching some show at one of the lounges. The drinks did taste a lot stronger than what I got at the pool but I didn't think much of it. Until I went to get up... :sad2:
I found them much stronger at the lounges compared to the pool area where they were pre-mixed.

We just did this on the Dream last week. They did not give us a new cup they used the one we gave them. I was hoping they would and he told us that is not the way it worked. Read somewhere they did this and the guy that sold us the first drink told us we could get refills cheaper . Maybe we just got guys that didn't give out new ones....

We paid $9.50 for the first cup and $4.95 for the refills, all were the drink of the day.

You can get the drink of the day at the discounted price without purchasing the souvenir cup. While it seems to be widely accepted that the souvenir cup is larger than the regular plastic cups you can get the drink of the day in, I read a post in the last year where someone officially measured and the drinks were the same size. If you like the souvenir cup and want to get one, then go ahead and purchase it and you can ask for refills in it. But you aren't saving any money by buying and reusing it.

I wondered about this since the souvenir cup is narrow in the middle . Thanks for this info. We got 2 cups now and I don't want to bring them back.

For the person who asked about B2B , don't think it matters. We took our popcorn bucket back this trip and got refill price , didn't matter we didn't by it on there this trip. No questions asked.

It's quite possible they are the same size actually.. I saw the regular cups and while shorter they were wider.
I just get the hurricane glasses to take them home as souvenirs.... I will be sitting on my deck this summer having my own Drink of the Day as I have done before... makes me feel like I'm on the cruise.
Almost. :drinking1

I use my souvenir cup at home too. I love mixing up my own Bahama Mama and sipping it out of my DCL hurricane glass, but I don't bother packing the glass to take back on my next cruise. I do pack our popcorn bucket though.

I think you both are right that the regular cups are wider and since the hurricane glass is narrower in the middle, it doesn't hold as much as you might think. I wish I had bookmarked the post from the person who compared the two drinks so I could link to it. But it just confirmed for me that I wasn't making a mistake by not packing my souvenir glass.
