Hi-I've read about segmenting the DDP and understand how you can do this through DVC. But can you explain how adding the DXDDP for part of the trip can be benificial?

Any advice would be great. Thanks

You need to decide which plan fits you best and which is a better value. We are at WDW now and had the DDDP on day 2 & 3 of our 9 day stay. After only 4 meals we were tired of eating big meals. Our savings for the same meals OOP was $250.

We added the DxDDP for the first night of the three nights we will be at BLT.

The reservations we have are for CRT (2 credits) and 1900 Park Fare (1 credit). The cost for these meals would be around $85.00, more than the $79 for the plan. And, with the plan, we get a mug and 2 snacks as well.

Where it will really benefit my party is for my 6 year old cousin. Her plan is $22 and the cost of those 2 meals is $48 so her mom really saves doing it this way.

Even with the TIW card, to do these meals OOP with the discount would have been closer to the break even point for adults but still a huge benefit for the child.

If we had to get it for all 3 nights, it would not be worth it since the other meals planned are a lot less, but for these specific ones, it is a really money saver!

What we have decided to do is get the DxDDP every other day for our future trips. So say you have it for the first day. You will be able to use those credits through midnight of the second day. This will give you 3 credits to use in those 2 days and you can fill in with the snacks if you are hungry. Here's an example:

Day 1: Breakfast in room
Lunch at Le Cellier (1 credit)
Dinner at Teppan Edo (1 credit)
Day 2: Breakfast in room
Lunch (use 2 snack credits)
Dinner at Ohana (1 credit)

This works for us, but may not work for everyone.

Interesting... I'll have to look into this for our next trip

Forgot to add that it might be to your advantage to have two days of DxDDP back to back at some point if you want to try any signature restaurants that take 2 credits.

Every change or segment requires a visit to the Front Desk and new "Key To The World Cards". With each change you run the risk of something going wrong. The process is getting better but it isn't full proof yet.

At each segment I suggest that you have your folio printed and your Dining Plan entitlements printed. Double check each step of the way.

We saved a few hundred dollars but we felt like all we were doing is eating at WDW with not much time for other things. If we didn't enjoy lobster as much as we do, we probably wouldn't use the DDP.

I just stayed at OKW the week of June 13, and we did not have to get new cards. They said it was something that had just changed the week before. I know some people have reported having to check in and out, but hopefully, that is something that has now been corrected.

We are at SSR now. Here each segment required new cards and each card had a different number. Sure will be a nice perk when they get the bugs worked out and everyone is trained and all of the resorts cut over. :thumbsup2

I'll sure be glad when they get the bugs getting all worked out! We didn't do the DDP but had a split stay with guests coming and going. And when someone left it cancelled the charging privileges on my DH's card. It didn't bother my card because I was the primary.

I just wish they'd do some full training at each of the resorts about segmenting and all the complications and how fix it at check in.

We'll be staying at OKW in a couple of weeks with a segmented stay. We are renting points, and the owner was great about setting it up for us. We have the DXDDP for our first two nights. This was a last minute trip, and I have no intention of roasting at the parks commando style. We're just going to take it easy, enjoy some nice meals, and then go to the parks at night.

I got the plan for our first two nights, and it works out like this for our 6 credits (two nights deluxe):
Sunday check-in with dinner at flying Fish
Monday early lunch at Le Cellier, dinner at Artist Point
Tuesday dinner at Boma
We'll eat at less expensive places for the next few days. It's perfect for us!

Too bad. I was hoping it was a new change everywhere that solved all the problems of the segmented dining perk. Maybe it will happen soon!

If you have a signature dinner planned would it be better to add the DXDDP for that one day in between the regular DDP?

In my opinion, the DXDDP is the better value of those two when doing the signature dining. Plus, my family really enjoys the appetizers that come with the deluxe plan. To blow two regular DDP credits and still not get an appetizer seems a bit sad. ;)

It is not about something being corrected.

The new computer system LILO is the reason you can now segment. Not every resort came online at the same time nor did certain aspects of it.

As Disneynutz said, when every resort is online and fully trained to all aspects it will be better, such as only having one card etc.

There are some additional aspects planned for the future that the new system will facilitate.

We had a friend who recently came back from a 4 night stay. MS told him to get a two day DDP, and that he could use it over the entire four days. Does that seem right?

He said they did it this way and it worked out fine, They had a table service meal every other day and counter service meals in between. They were golfing, so they couldn't work in the table service meals each day.

So in their case, a two day DDP lasted for length of stay?

It is not supposed to work that way, unless they segmented the trip in to daily segments and then added the DDP to day 1 and 3. Then they would work out that way.

That could very well be what happened, MS might have done this for him and he just didn't realize it. While he thought he had a single 4 day reservation, it might have been two 2 day reservations.
