I know this may sound like a non brainer question to most of you, but we have never been on a cruise and I have lots of questions. The only way to learn is to ask or experience.. right?

So.. what exactly does your cabin steward do? What is his/her job description?

Do they come around when you first get into your cabin? Do you need to call them?

I am just totally uninformed. ;)

Your cabin steward is like a maid at a hotel. They clean your room daily, get ice for your cooler, etc. Deliver your luggage when you arrive on the ship, take it the night you leave.

The cabin steward is a busy person, that's for sure! They clean your room twice a day. That means bathroom, too. They turn down your beds at night, bring towels, washcloths, shampoo, lotion, etc each time. They fix the couch or murphy bed into a sleepable position each night. They are so good at their job. The amazing thing is, I rarely saw mine! It was like the cleaning fairy magically came twice a day! I wanted to bring her home with me. Oh, and they bring chocolate and make towel animals, so fun! :goodvibes

Wrongo, the way to learn is the ask questions AND experience it!!;)

We've always had great room stewards. Some have done their job without being seen. Some have been VERY personable (even more so than some of our wait staff!!). What do they do. They keep your room very clean. Heck they even make the sand disapear when you come back from a day onshore at the beach (I wish I could do that at home!!) They will keep your cooler filled with ice if you request it. If you're a repeat cruiser with DCL they bring you your Castaway Club gift. They make your beds, turn the couch into a bed, pull down the bed from the ceiling if needed. If you need to get up in the middle of the night to go potty, they've made your side of the bed before your get back without waking your significant other --- no wait, it just seems like they do that:smooth: It does seem like they come in a pick up after you after every time you visit your room and then leave.

They usually have about 10 rooms to take care of. And they are some of the nicest people that will be working hard to make your cruise magical.

Remember to tip them - they are in the way underpaid group of CM's onboard.

Our cabin steward, Lidia, was our favorite CM on board. She made our room sparkle, procured extra Minnie lotion for me to take home, made the coolest towel animals, left extra treats for the kids, and really made an effort to be nice to us, especially the girls. Whenever she saw us coming down the hall, she would open our room door for us.

One day DD was having a little tantrum, and refused to come into the room. We propped open the door and let her stay out there - believe me, we could still hear her (she wasn't screaming, just whining and pouting). We couldn't hear her anymore, so we poked our heads out the door to see Lidia doing her best to make DD smile. The kids still talk about her.

When DH and I were on our first cruise, we didn't know that the cabin steward would come into the room in the evenings, we though it was just in the morning. Imagine our surprise when we got back to our room after dinner to see it fresh and clean, and to see all the dirty clothes we had left all over the place, including underwear, in a neat pile in the corner. Now we make sure the room is fairly neat, and underwear free, before we leave it. :teeth:

Denae - Had to laugh at the last part of your post. I was mortified the first night of our first cruise to realize what a mess we'd left the room including underwear and dirty clothes lying around. I made sure we cleaned up before we left for dinner every night after that!
