I was just listening to the email show and when asked about Bongos, Kevin said he didn't like it.....but is not a fan of Cuban food. I am half Cuban and just want to make sure people know Bongos in not a great example of real Cuban food. It's like what ChiChi's is to Mexican! :sad2:
Just to clarify entire ethnenticity, I am......CostaGuataCubaRican!!!:thumbsup2

PS - Kevin, anytime you would like to fly me down to Orlando.....I would be happy to cook a delicious Cuban meal for you! ;) I guess that will be right around the time they send you to Disneyland Paris??

Or you can come down to Miami and I'll take you to Versailles Restaurant, which is like the defacto Cuban Embassy in Miami.

We always visit there when we are in Miami. Now I am hungry for a sandwich.

I have to say I had the coffee at Bongos and it was pretty good, but I seem to remember them asking me if I wanted sugar in it. That seemed like a weird question.

We used to have what some considered to be a "great Cuban restaurant" in Orlando. It was called Rolando's.

I went a couple of times and it just never clicked.

Maybe Ive just never had great Cuban food.

I love Cuban food. Do you have a good recipe for Ropa Vieja?! Everytime I've been to Bongos the service has been HORRIBLE. They have a trick there called "Disappearing Waiters." It's lots of fun especially when you want your check after waiting 30 minutes for it.

I don't have anything written down, but when I get a chance I will get it together for you. I make mine in a croc pot....so yummy!!!

Hmm...

Yeah. Much as I adore Gloria Estefan, Bongos just isn't very good. I want it to be, but it's not....

There IS good cuban food nearby, though. There's a Columbia restaurant in Celebration, and better still is 'Numero Uno' at 2499 S. Orange in Orlando.

Worth the trip.

THANK YOU! My husband loves the crockpot so that would be a great recipe!!! I look forward to getting it! :goodvibes

Ah, yes the restaurant in Celebration is really good. We have been a couple of times with friends, one of which is from Cuba and recommended it. Very good food!!

Bongo's is simply not good food.

BTW, You can Google 'numero uno Orlando' for a map and their Web site...

I'm not sure if I can post url's here or not... :)
