Have never been interested in pursuing it but have just been struck by curiosity...

Served frozen, cold, cool?
Ice cream texture? Tapioca texture?

It is very, very creamy rice pudding with a strawberry sauce on top. It is refrigerated. We love it! Usually have one while waiting on Illuminations.

My children didn't care for it but I thought it was heavenly.

That said, I am not fond of sweet desserts.

Rice cream is a mildly flavored creamy pudding that is not sweet at all. I think it was topped with strawberries or a strawberry sauce. Not much, just a garnish.

It is a very plain flavored, comfort food kind of dessert.

Yum!

OK, think of it this way. You cook some white rice. Put it in the fridge. When it's cooled, mix it with some fresh sweetened whipped cream. Put a nice strawberry sauce on the top and stick it back in the fridge.

Not cold but cool. The rice is not sticky or in clumps. The whipped cream and strawberry not cloying sweet. Just a nice refreshing dessert.

I have to have at least one Rice Kreme on every
trip, it is so good. I bought a cookbook from
the shop at the restaurant. The recipe is in it
and I have made it once. You will have to try
one on your next trip. :smooth: :p

Really Good!!!! That is the best way I know how...:D

Well-now my interest has been piqued!

Just when you think you've tried everything you care to try-next stop Norway!

Thanks!

Where do I get a Rice Creme? At the Bakery or do I have to go into Rest. Ask.? I love rice pudding and tapioca-
I can't believe that I didn't know about it before- I just got back from the world Monday evening and Sunday I couldn't decide what dessert to try at Epcot- I finally ended up in France and had some kind of pastry which wasn't all that!!

Hey callahanjulie!

I believe you can get it at the bakery-no need to go to the restaurant!

Yes...you can get rice cream at the bakery in Norway. We always get one and eat it while we are waiting for the parade or fireworks to start.

Here's the recipe from WDWIG

Rice Cream
Akershus Restaurant's Rice Cream
Yield: 10 servings

1 pound short-grain white rice (not instant)
4 tablespoons sugar
3 cups water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups milk

Strawberry sauce:
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups strawberry preserves
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice

1. Cook rice with water and salt for 15 minutes, covered. Add milk and cook for 30 minutes or until rice is tender and the mixture is thick. Chill rice in the refrigerator.

2. Whip cream and sugar and vanilla. Gently fold whipped cream into chilled rice. Set aside in refrigerator.

3. Place sauce ingredients in the work bowl of a blender. Mix until combined.

Here is a picture of a rice cream. While I did like it, I thought that there was too much strawberry sauce on top, I couldn't really taste the flavor of the rice pudding itself.

Oh no, looks it has gotten smaller than the one
that I had last year. Well, I guess that they are cutting back on everything.

mustangdi - I couldn't tell you if it was smaller or not, because this was the first time that we had one. Also, on an off note, my brother- in- law and wife were just in your town for Elvis week ( he's a HUGE fan) and had a great time.

Oh Poohshoney-aren't you the best!

Am enjoying your Europa trip report as we speak-and for everyone else-if you haven't read Poohshoney's reports-do yourself a favor and run-don't walk-to read them.

Wasn't it in these reports that you learn how to become properly "Akershus full"?

Thanks Lilboo!!!
Yes, it was my Mickey & US reports where I was `Akershus-full´ and the worst thing about it was not being able to finish my Rice Cream!!! I really hope you try it. I'm going to try making some soon - we've got lots of visitors coming so at least one lot will get to know the delights of Rice Cream! Hope I can get it to taste as good...
