Just read these sentences in my DCL Passporter, "Don't forget to tip your room service steward on delivery. They'd don't get automatic tips for the food, just the drinks." Does this mean that they don't get tips from US or from their superiors for the food?

Sorry...maybe my brain isn't working at full force today!!

:p IVY :p

my understanding is

food is free.....drinks you pay( for example can of coke is $1.50)

pay for the coke and also tip the guy for bringing the food.

that is what i have read on these boards.

I cruised on dcl 2 years ago and brought 100.00 in 2 dollar bills for the tips. I did every time I fot room service and they quick to get it to us. I have heard of some people on the cruise who had to call more than once to see where thier order was.. The crew were amazed at the 2 dollar bills. You can order them through your bank for the trip. The other thing that was appreciated was the phone cards we purchased and handed out to our servers and housekeeper.

Drinks ordered via room service will have a 15% gratuity already tacked on.

Food will not!

Therefore, always tip a few dollars (depends on how much you order) when you order room service. Most people will keep a bunch of $1s just for that purpose.

It's just a courtesy to have a couple dollars for the guy who lugged that heavy tray to your room. You are right that the drinks will already have the automatic 15% added. The tip for the food is certainly not required, but is a polite touch.

I have read several times about getting the $2 bills, we can't get them out here in California. I managed to snag a few about 10 years ago for my kids coin collections. Still working on getting Sacagawea coins too. Wal-mart was giving them out in change for a while after they came out in 2000, but don't have them anymore. Manager told me once the collectors came in and got what they wanted, no one wanted them. I asked him about $2 bills, and he's never seen one.

It has always been my understanding that you're tipping for the service of having the food delivered to your stateroom. You're not tipping for the actual items brought. So, it doesn't matter what it is you order, it's still being delivered.

In short: You tip on anything brought to the stateroom.

I took about 50 one dollar bills, Each time I ordered room service, even if it was just morning coffee I gave a dollar. I always took a few on our tours to tip the bus drivers also.

When you see the talent it takes to get those large trays full of food inside the stateroom you will want to tip. These people who deliver are very nice..and getting the trays through the door well..people..tip them good.

We always bring $50.00 in singles to keep in the nightable drawer...this way everyone in our family knows where the tip money is for room service and in 10 cruises we have never had an incident of any of being stolen.

I like to keep the money handy in the drawer so the kids know where to get money to tip for room service (my kids are older teens so they are often ordering large quantities from room service and they know to tip accordingly. They often go back to the room after hanging by the pool and just chill with room service.

If I were not a US national (as most cruise CMs are not), I might not believe $2 bills were real!

On my last Disney Cruise...when ever we ordered room service of any sort whether it was drinks or food, I always tipped the people who brought it to the room. Kept a bunch of singles in the safe for that reason. Never was told if it was necessary or not so I did it anyway.... ::yes::

When the CM delivers the warm choc chip cookies and cold milk long after midnight and your are snuggled enjoying them with a Disney movie and the sounds of water (OK, we had a verandah), the $2 is the best money EVER spent

(Now of course, room service isn't really free since you pay to be onboard but I'll let the kids miss that fact as part of the joys of youth)

Enjoy
