If we go out for a TS meal - can we share an entree / dessert and only use one TS or do they charge you for each person there ?

They do not normally allow sharing if you are using the DDP...you may find a CM that turns a blind eye to it on a rare occasion.

you can. you wont make too mnay friends there, but they cant tell you no. the rules dont change just because youve prepaid.
but, why would you want to? it seems to defeat the purpose of the dining plan, if you arent going to eat that much just pay OOP for one meal.
oh and buffets, no you cant share.

We are two seniors and we shared two TS meals so that we could save up 4 TS to eat at California Grill our last night (wedding anniversary). We had no problems sharing at Coral Reef and Kona. If DH wanted a side salad he just paid OOP.

A restaurant can refuse to service to anyone...therefore, if they say that is their policy (no sharing) they do have the right to refuse service if you do not comply...the DDP has certain provisions that you agree to follow when you purchase the plan. Long story short...you do have to comply if they refuse to allow you to share, otherwise not be served. If a CM allows the sharing, consider it a little bit of "pixie dust".

Thanks for the replies.
We are using 2 TS to eat in the castle and while I don't mind paying OOP for the meals I choose to have in addition to the dining plan, I was just wondering of there as a meal booked that perhaps one of us was not that hungary that we could rather share one meal. Not trying to make enemies - just wondering and of course I will comply with the rules.

I do not think even paying OOP it would be allowed here since it is a fixed price meal...think of it kind of like a buffet (without the multiple trips :goodvibes)...each person is charged at all fixed price locations...I know this policy is definitely in effect at Ohana, and again, it is a fixed price meal that is not a buffet.

The OP wasn't suggesting that she was going to try to share at CRT.

OOPS...sorry, I misread the OP's statement :flower3: I did not in anyway think he/she would purposefully try to cheat the system...I simply thought it was another legitimate question. My bad...please disregard my previous post.:grouphug: That is what I get for trying read while my 3 year old is screaming, singing, and dancing in the same room:lmao:

It's going to be up to the restaurant. Some will allow it, and some may not. The dining plan rule is apparently that you are not supposed to share with people who aren't on your reservation and your dining plan, not the case here. Sharing is prohibited at buffets and all you can eat meals.

Has anyone actually had the experience that they couldn't share on the DDP (except for buffets and family style)? If it's not an issue when paying out of pocket why is it an issue on the dining plan?

I have never really asked...my guess would be because it provides the opportunity for guests to book even more ADRs during a given trip thus clogging up the locations that are already so booked that some people (DDP guest, locals, & those paying OOP) have a difficult time getting much of anything they want. Myself, I have no problem at all with 2 people splitting a meal...my thoughts are "why waste the food??"...however, I also wish to follow the rules of the dining establishment so I know it is not an option when I dine at WDW. I guess I know if it becomes an issue/problem for Disney (like children using adult credits) they might do away with the program all together...I would hate to see that happen. Just my thoughts...not trying to flame anyone.:flower3:

In 2006 when we went my dd 10 and I shared a meal at cpt. jacks. There was not a problem with it at all. I am not sure if we did anything with the extra ts credit we had though.

But where is it stated that it is a rule? That's what I'm trying ot figure out. Is it stated in the dining plan brochure? Or has it become a rule through DIS legend?

Every time I see a thread started where someone is asking if a meal can be shared, the answer is overwhelmingly yes. So, I'm trying to reconcile that to the response of people in this thread.

My mind wants straightforward, logical, black and white answers.:rotfl2: I can't help it.

I checked myself last years plan and early this year for the 2008 plan and it does not actually state that...however, I think it must be something the dining locations themselves regulate (who knows, maybe they have been told by their higher-ups). The only thing I know is that anytime we have asked (or heard anyone around us ask) we have always been told that it is not possible to share a TS meal when on the DDP :confused3 We have tried at several different dining locations on several different trips...still, no luck. I know that some have been lucky enough to do so, but we have never had that luck. Again, not trying to flame anyone NOR start an argument...just honestly answering a question that I have had experience with and providing the OP with my outcome.

Thank you for sharing your experience. That helps.:thumbsup2

ok, so i called disney, and they say yes of course you can share a meal. there is not now or has there ever been a rule that you cant. you purchase credits and may use them in any manner you choose.
the exceptions would be buffets and other 1 price meals. like hoop dee doo and CRT. but any regular restaurant, is just that, a restaurant and you can order or not order anyhting you wish.
so there you have it from the horses mouth.

Well there you have it...it must be true if a CM told you over the phone :lmao: they have never been know to give out wrong info...I must just have a really bad run of bad luck :confused3

KPLC, have fun on your trip and remember...it never hurts to ask if you can share a meal. As I said earlier, I know some have had success in doing so and the worst they can say is "no"...unfortunately, luck has never been on my side when I have asked. I am truly sorry this "conversation" has turned into a "try to prove someone wrong" issue...I hope you understand I have just tried to honestly answered your question with the outcome I have always had when I have asked to share a dinner while using the DDP. Here is a little pixie dust for you hoping you have success pixiedust: HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!
