My son turns 8 on Monday. I let him stay home today, his friend's last day of their spring break, his mom and I took them to Navarre Beach, then drove along the beach to Pensacola Beach, then to McDonalds, and then back to swim at our house. Long day of sun and fun. I didn't work (I work at home), I didn't do any laundry, I got take-home for dinner. I was home in time to pick up the older child from high school and before DH got home for dinner. It felt so sinful! Like a mini secret vacation.

No real point to this thread I guess, just to say - sure Disney World is fun to look forward to, but sometimes I forget how much fun we can have in our own back yard. :thumbsup2

Boy I must have been tired last night - the point to my posting this on the budget board was that we had such a great day and spent less than $20! :rotfl:

I always forget how pretty the beach is....we live 20 min away and rarely ever go.

That sounds like a wonderful day!

(Now I am a teacher and I'm supposed to say, "Don't miss school." But if this is a one time a year thing ... I think it is great! PS ... Don't tell me other teacher friends! :goodvibes )

His class was going on a field trip that I wasn't thrilled about. His teacher knew why he stayed home. :thumbsup2

I think that's great, I'm glad you guys had a good time. Thank you for posting the picture of the beach, that is my :cloud9: place (never been to Navarre beach, but I have yet to find a beach I didn't :lovestruc LOL)

Our family has what we call "Family Field Trips" where I pull the boys out of school and we spent the day doing fun stuff. Now, I don't have a beach within 5 hours of us, but we have gone to the Science Musuem, the Zoo twice and Legoland. My kids are in kindy and 2nd grade. We'll probably keep this going for a couple more years as long as their health and grades hold up :)

Your beach photo is beautiful!!!!!! I hope that we are able to find a beach like that in So Cal when we go back in a month.....and my girls are missing school that week...all of that week....well it's a 4 day school week so they are missing 4 days.

Sounds awesome! I took last Friday off from my school job since my son had a different spring break than me. I wanted to spend at least one day with him. We slept late, met my sister for lunch and hung out at the mall together. He's 15 but he still likes to spend time with mom!

Sounds like a great day!!! Glad you got to enjoy it and I bet that day will keep you motivated for awhile!! How awesome to live by the beach!!! You should go more, look how happy it made you!:)

I think this is a great idea!!

I pull my son out once a year for an autism group cruise. Its a week of fun, but also social skills, language, geography, culture, introduction to new foods, LOTS of things that I believe in my heart that he benefits from. ;)

Enjoy it while you can, with a teenager you never know when they might morph into an alien!! :rolleyes1

You are right, it was a lot of fun. I do worry about the sun exposure, I've had several "spots" taken off. But once in a while and with the right precautions I think its ok!
