Hi, I am thinking this will be a good place for us. My older son wants to snuba with his dad, but I want to take my younger son to a beach/pool. We will also be with my friend who will have a 6 month old with her.

This place looks great for the little kid water park and water slides!

My question is: I've heard the buffet is not very good and drinks are not very strong. So, I am thinking of doing this on our own- getting our own taxi and just paying regular admission, then just buying whatever food/drinks we want off the menu.

Also, my DH and DS should be done in a few hours, so they could catch a cab and hang out with us until get go back to the ship, right?

Can anyone share their experiences? Has anyone else done this on their own?
Thx

Food was terrible but I thought the drinks were very strong. The bartenders were very nice and I guess they could add more liquor if you wanted. I was able to order drinks without alcohol for DD.

We did Playa Mia on our own on May 12, 2014. You can catch a cab from the port for a flat rate of $17 for 1-4 passengers and purchase admission there. Unless there will be several ships in port, there is no need to purchase admission in advance.

We had the basic package ($30 per adult) which does not include all-you-can-eat or all-you-can-drink. Here is a photo I took of the food menu prices.

Depending on what time your son and husband finish with snuba, they should be able to take their own cab to meet you. They will still have to pay the full admission price, though. There is no discounted half-day or late-entry price.

We went to Playa Mia on our own just a month ago. I believe we paid $18 for the taxi for 4 people, and they tried to push that we purchase the tickets from both the taxi stand and also in the cab...you don't need to do this.

We arrived, there was a person in a little ticket booth, and that is where we bought our ticket. And we are glad we did, because they didn't charge us for our 4 year old.

The buffet is blah, but honestly, after eating like a pig on the cruise ship, we welcomed basically skipping a meal. We didn't order any food off the menu.

The only draw back for the 6 month old is that there really isn't a zero entry pool or place for the young one. The water play features are amazing, they had a piñata for Disney kids, and it was a blast. We are really glad we went on our own because the cruise ship transportation left a full hour before we did. We got more time for a lower cost, a true win-win.

I would go, you'll enjoy it! And if you have the ability, my wife took a cooking class there that she found was quite fun and entertaining!
