I'm at home on break this week and was just perusing some cable TV when I came across an episode of Platinum Weddings. The woman's mother footed the almost $250k bill :scared1: Going through the website description of the episodes they listed a few other weddings as being $700-800k, so I guess it was on the low side for this show, but for this particular episode I couldn't help comparing hers to a Disney wedding. I've been agonizing over whether or not my significant other would ever agree to a Disney wedding when that time comes, or whether or not my family would travel down there for it, etc. This couple had their ceremony and reception at a country club, had a moderate guest list (I don't know exact numbers because I only caught the end of the show, but I don't think I saw more than 100 chairs at her ceremony), a personal fireworks display, two wedding cakes (the bride chose a modest 3-tier and her mother surprised her with another 2-tier), and a $2k ice sculpture, but other than that I didn't see anything truly over the top. At Disney I would try to have a ceremony for 30-40 people with a dessert party for the fireworks, all for under $20k (hopefully more like $10-15k). When I look at the money she paid for her wedding compared to the money I would spend on similar items, it doesn't make the cost of a Disney wedding look so bad!! She paid something like $35,000 for her table settings alone!! How is that even possible?? I fully accept people's rights to spend their money however they want to, the final total was just surprising to me based on what they had. Just thought I'd share!

all of the weddings on the david tutera series run half a million easily as well.

i agree - cookoo!:rotfl:

I saw that show also and while it was beautiful, I also kept comparing it to our Disney wedding. We were married in Epcot (Italy) and our reception was in ADH. Her reception was in a beautiful room but - it was just a room - it had no extra special feeling. I did like the second cake her mother surprised her with. We had an IllumiNations DP with loads of desserts and a wonderful firework display. We had 50 guests and our wedding so much less expensive then her wedding.

I am so glad we stuck with Disney. I also love the fact that we can keep going back year after year and stand in the same place we got married and dance in the same place we had our reception and watch IllumiNations as many times as we want to. We have been married 2.5 years and have been back to Disney at least 6 times, having those free annual passes the first year really helped.

I didn't do a disney wedding, but have seen those shows...they are just over the top. We had 160 guests, full open bar, cocktail hour, dessert table, full dinner, cake, etc for $15,000. In a silk drapped ceiling ballroom at a hotel.

Don't compare your wedding to those. Pick a dollar amount and decide how you want to spend it. I wanted 160 guests so WDW was impossible, if you are fine with 40 then go for it, they make great sense.

we are hoping to do our 10th vr there in 2012.
