I was watching my new plasma tv tonight, less than 2 months old, and all of a sudden, the screen went completely green. I powered off and powered off the cable box, but no good. I get the audio, but the screen in completely green. Kind of DIS green, but not what I want on my entire tv screen. I'm ready to cry right now.

You might want to consider unplugging the TV, letting it rest a few minutes and plugging it back in. This might reboot it.

Ugh...well, if its only two months you could possible return it to the store.

I think a common reason for the "green screen" is that it is receiving a signal from the source port, but the processor to convert it has died.

Do you have sources other than a cable box? Do they work? Can you hook the cable box up via a different port, preferably via a different signal (i.e. if you are using HDMI, use Component instead). Even just trying another HDMI port might work.

Another question...is this green screen common to see as you change channels between resolution changes? If that's the case, it COULD be an issue of HDMI handshake, where the cable box and your TV aren't talking to each other properly (think of it like a network connection). Switching the TV's input to something else and back again might help.

I think its the FIOS box. I changed the HDMI cable to another port. The same. When I play a blu ray its fine. Great. I guess I won't be watching any TV in my room for the weekend.

Is the blu-ray also hooked in via HDMI? Via the same port(s)?

If you have another HDMI cable (say, from the blu-ray), try swapping them just to eliminate all the variables down to the cable box.

THANK YOU DOC!!!!!!!!!!!. It was the HDMI cable. I got it from Monoprice. I guess I will be heading to Best Buy this weekend for a new HDMI for the Blu Ray. I wonder what went wrong with the cable all of a sudden. At least I know better than to buy those monstrously price Monster cables.

Cool! The cables aren't the cheapest thing, but at least that's all it was.

No one NEEDS Monster cables. You only need one that is "good enough". They don't connect better, they don't sound better, they don't stay plugged in better...

You want one that is rated for HDMI 1.3 at least I think...

Some company was selling a cable for something like $500 that was nothing more than an ethernet cable with gold-plated connectors...

Buy your cables in the computer sections not the TV Sections. Same quality and Cheap.

or If your a cable subscriber just let them know your HDMI cable went bad and either go pick it up at the cable office or have them bring it to you.

Was a cable guy for years. Monster cable is a joke.

I figured I could do without the blu ray for a few days, or if I really wanted to watch, I could just use the component cable. I ordered new cables from Monoprice. Verizon didn't supply an HDMI. I didn't have the plasma when I first got FIOS.

We buy our HDMi cables from monstercable.com.

CHEAP and fast shipping. It's about $1 per foot.

:surfweb: Maybe I'm just slow this morning, but I don't think Monster sells ANYTHING at $1/foot. Their cheapest HDMI cable I saw was $39.95...
