On my last visit to Disney World I bought a little cactus in a jar. It's now getting to the point that I need to replant it. However I have lost the instructions to do so. If anyone has one of these plants can you please give me the instructions?

Thanks in advance :)

Just take it out of the sealed glass containe, you may have to take a butter knife and get the whole thing out with the gel and all and plant it in a pot with soil like you would repot a regular plant. I have had a few of these in the past years. The cactus one is still doing good. Good luck :thumbsup2

I would look up the type of plant it is and the type of soil it needs. I do know the directions stated to wash off the gel stuff.

I have a dragonfruit and a venus flytrap that I haven't planted yet because all I have on hand is some miracle grow potting soil which I know isn't the right kind for either.

You should probably get some Jiffy seed starter soil. You don't want to burn the roots in this early stage with potting soils with fertilizer already in it.

It's also suggest to place the plant into a large ziploc bag to make like an oversized greenhouse.

I've tried three redwoods, two made it out of the jar, but not past the ziploc bag.
I have a fourth redwood that came as a seed starter kit, and so far 3 have sprouted. It's still currently in it's miniature greenhouse.

I didn't wash the gel off and years later they are still alive. Used just regluar soil also - actually it might have been miracle grow potting soil that I used - can't remember now since it has been awhile now.

i'm so glad you posted this OP!!

i have the dragonfruit and i noticed today that it's really taking off in the container. i'm afraid to take it out, my mom who has a giant green thumb said the one i got her looks horrible since she planted it. :sad1:

guess i'll take the plunge and replant.

I have the dragonfruit too...and it IS NOT taking off. When did you get yours? We brought ours home mid January, and while it is growing, it is growing painfully slowly. It is about 1 inch taller than it was with three tiny little "arms" jutting out.

The one we tried to grow a few years ago was another type of plant that grew like crazy that made it out of the jar to be instantly slaughtered by one of my cats.

Bummer.
