Plans have been filed for DVC expansion at Caribbean Beach Resort

It's logistics...but also shell game internal accounting...

Makes sense. Makes the bookings for Caribbean look better than they actually are. I'm not picky but I don't think I'd want to stay there especially with the bus situation. I still can't see this being something that sells but hey people pay for Club Level so, there's that.

Be fun to see what new choices comes out of this, if any.

Not like this one. This one is more specific. But you'll never agree with me so why do I try?

You shouldn't...

Just like I shouldn't ask you to sit back, look at the historical precedent and financial angle, and not give so much benefit of the non-doubt

Which one is it this time? Brazil? Israel? Austrailia? Spain?

Spain was my favorite...as about 13 years ago they had a "mini pavilion" next to Germany during food and wine that was surely a precursor to the country pavilion...

Well WL was already starting construction there before they officially announced. Disney was also well underway on Bay Lake Tower before they announced that one as well.

I believe that by Florida law, you can only sell certain percentages based on the construction/operational timeline. The Idea is that people don't get suckered 5 years ahead of an opening for a place that doesn't get built.

So there's no advantage to announcing early...really.

I think this will be one of the hardest challenges to separate these two resorts and have the mind set that it is not CBR 2.0. I know, as it is right now as a DVC owner, this would be a challenge for me to overcome.

I don't see it as hard at all. Look at all the people who swear by POFQ and will pay full price to stay there when massive discounts or free dining are available at POR.

I see it all the time on the boards and Facebook. Though the price difference wouldn't be the same I use the example because people view them as completely different resorts ... I don't.... but it seems many do.

So in other words, we aren't really going to know for a while yet.

Think ROL will go live before we know?

o_O

I'm not understanding your analogy. You're saying there are people who forgo not really free dining at POR to stay at POFQ and this somehow relates to people not being able to separate CBR from potential CBR 2.0?

POR and PORFQ ARE completely different resorts. In fact they started out as completely different resorts. It wasn't until they come up with the value/moderate/deluxe tiers that they didn't want to price POFQ as a value so they changed the name, linked it to POR and charged the moderate price tag for it.

This is not similar. You have an existing resort that is the least popular of the moderates having new building on existing property and then trying to call it something else. It will most definitely be difficult to differentiate CBR and CBR 2.0 unless you give it a very different theme, name, and included infrastructure. POR and POFQ already had its existing fan bases before the merge.

I remember when they were building BLT and specifically NOT calling it DVC - I would joke that it's "Disney's Worst Kept Secret". (Back when DVC was marketed as "Disney's Best Kept Secret".)

Everyone has there opinion. Mine is no more valid than anyone elses, but I'm going to believe this is DVC until proven otherwise.

An interesting thought one of the sources threw out there as being likely is this will be treated like WL in that you have the main resort and Boulder Creek villas but then you also have the separate Copper Creek Villas. This would be similar to that in you have the regular resort but then separate villas as if it were its own resort. They might share some amenities but they would be sold as separate in theory.

Actually...it makes a lot more sense than I originally thought...

Rack rate for port Orleans is insane...like you should have to pull your credit card out of your straight jacket to pay it.

Are y'all insane?!??!!

I hadnt looked at the rack in a few years. Caribbean is the "cheapest" at a starting $187...but still.

This is just consumer insanity...and it explains a lot including this move - perhaps.

Unfortunately you missed the point completely.

POR and POFQ are as much one resort as CBR is ... combined land space they might be smaller, I'm not sure. But have stayed at all 3 and besides having different check ins (which would help at CBR) they might as well be one resort. You can use both pools, both food courts, they often share a bus, and when they don't we just take whichever comes first.

The point was that people don't see the resorts as the same at all and will willingly pay much more to stay at one than the other. And they don't associate the resorts at all despite the extremely similar names even. When you tell people they can use either pool or walk between them or use either food court they are often genuinely surprised.

You and I might know that "The international DVC resort" was once part of and currently situated in CBR... but most people won't and will never put the two together.

Well, that I understand. So, yes I did miss the point originally. Thanks for the clarification.

Wait until you find out that's what the All Stars start out at during the Christmas Peak season :earseek:

I expect insanity/stupidity that week...nothing shocks me there...

Tonight's tab at Caribbean in Trinidad 39...on January 24th which is just north of hell in Orlando...is $211.03 with tax...

My eyes hurt because I haven't blinked since I looked it up.

This is like Stockholm syndrome or something...

So maybe DVC IS a go then ? :)

In 2012, our first of a consistent string of trips over the last 5 years. I believe, we paid, $150 / night, for a King water view at CSR, AND we got free dining. We are Canadian, so not sure if that was a Canadian Deal, we booked through CAA (AAA). When we look at what a moderate costs now, dang, glad we bought into DVC.
