Planning Trip in May - Where to Stay

Hi - I'm a newbie here.

My DH, and I are taking our two sons (ages 5 & 7) back to Disney after a four year hiatus. Our last trip was in 2004 when we stayed outside of the park.

This year, for the first time we want to stay in the park. My question is - is it worth the extra $$ to stay in the more expensive resorts - or is the room the least important factor & should we save $$ for special events such as Dining, Pirate Cruise, Pirate Party etc. Right now I am leaning towards the POP with what seems to be a very good price through AAA. Any advice?

Also, is AAA a good way to go? I"ve done similar packages myself to compare & their prices seem very competitive, if not slightly less $.

POP is a fun place to stay. I am sure your family will love it. Being "worth it" is very relative. Only your family can decide what to spend. We choose to save our money for the fun stuff such as character dining, watermice rentals, special tours, etc. I just can't bring myself to pay the deluxe prices. I have stayed at POR and POP, and I loved both for different reasons. AAA is usually a good discount. I have used The Magic For Less travel agency and been very happy with their service. Deb is awesome. She booked AAA for me and then helped make all my dining reservations and tour reservations. We always use TMFL when we go to Disney.

DH's fav is Wilderness Lodge, but my teenage kids LOVE POP. We too, rather spend money on other 'stuff' ~ we really just sleep in the rooms. They are clean, relatively quiet and serve us well. I'm sure your 5 & 7 year olds will love it.

I booked through AAA because I was able to get both the AAA room discount AND the Disney Dining Plan. If you book a AAA room-only rate thru Disney, you can't add the dining package. Hope I explained this clearly. My poor DH is having a hard time understanding what I'm talking about!

As of now, it's the cheapest available way to go for my dates. I'm always watching for better deals to come out. Stay tuned!
