Hi and welcome to my nervous journey through arranging a secret VR in February!

My name is Jay and I am a proud husband to Amanda, and dad to 2 special little girls.

So, mine is a long story, so I apologize in advance if I bore anyone along the way!!

Amanda and I met in 1998, at that time I lived in my native UK and she lived in Michigan. Our road to being together didn't exactly run smoothly, in fact, for a while, any relationship between seemed doomed, but in 2001, I went to Michigan and we started dating.

It wasn't easy juggling a long distance relationship and we both spent a small fortune travelling back and forth. For a while I was in MI for 3 months (which is the longest I could stay) flew home to the UK, and flew back a few weeks later for another 3 months! Let's say I clocked up a lot of airmiles in those days!

In 2005, it all went wrong when immigration stopped me entering the US. Apparently my frequent trips for long periods flagged me up as a potential illegal immigrant (even though I'd never overstayed my visa) and they shipped me back to the UK 4 hours after touch down.

That summer we went on vacation together to Europe and got engaged and in 2006, Amanda moved to the UK. She was given a visa that gave us a few months to get married or she would be sent back, so we decided to have a quick "legal wedding" to meet the Visa requirements and planned our "real wedding" later that year.

Then life threw us a curve ball. A family crisis happened and my cousin's two special needs children needed a new home. We'd been married just 2 months when we were told the kids were "unadoptable" because of their difficulties and they'd be split and sent to 2 different foster homes. Amanda and I couldn't bear the thought of that, so we decided to adopt them. Needless to say, the "real wedding" never happened! My wife never had her big day, a wedding dress, a cake, a meal, nothing!

So fast forward, and we've been married 5 years now. Our kids are our lives and we wouldn't change anything for the world but I've always felt my wife missed out. She's never complained, never said that she feels she missed out, but I know in my heart that every woman dreams of her big day and Amanda just never had it.

This summer we booked a vacation to Disney World. We've had a tough year which I won't bore you with, and we truly deserved it! Having saved up (secretly) for 5 years to give Amanda her day, I decided to do it at Disney and give her the dream day she deserves!

At this point, she has absolutely no idea, but I've booked a memories collection WVR....so here I am, planning this big surprise all on my own, hoping I get everything perfect!

I'm looking forward to sharing my plans with you and hearing your views!

Yay Jay you made it on to the PJ section!!! You have one avid reader here!!!
Where in the UK are you from?

I am from London, a good cockney boy! In other words, horribly common. We live in Essex now.

Oh you still live in the UK - your location says Michigan so I assumed you were in the US!!
I am originally from Surrey but live in the Lake District now - two miles from Ullswater.

I can't wait to hear more!! You did a great thing for those little girls! This will mean so much to her and I am very happy for the both of you!!

Welcome :flower3: I know it must b hard 2 keep everything a secret :tiptoe:
When the day comes there will b lots of hugs & kisses :love1: keep the updates coming popcorn::

Aw, so happy to see you started a PJ. Looking forward to following along. You guys sound like a wonderful couple and what a special thing you are doing for your wife! :goodvibes

Yes, I did that deliberately because my wife is a frequent visitor to the Dibb Boards and I didn't want to make my presence here too obvious!

Oh well, the secret is out everyone! I was taking our puppy to the vet for his injections and while I was out, a HUGE David's Bridal box was delivered and Amanda uncovered the secret!

In a way I'm relieved because she can now be invovled in the decisions, but also gutted it never worked out the way I hoped in my head!

Never mind....onward we go, we've got a VR to arrange!:cool1:

Tears, which was quickly followed by "I need to lose some weight!" She loves the dress I chose, but it is a little small, but my view was, we can all go on a healthy eating kick and it'll be fine!

Sorry you couldn't keep the surprise. I hope you received a worthy reaction from your wife! I'm sure you did.

Well, the surprise is over, but it's onward and upward for the two of us now! There were tears and cries that she has to lose weight, but I'm partly relieved that she can be involved in decisions now because I was terrified of getting things wrong.

Amanda's dress arrived today, luckily for me, she likes it!

The Letter of Agreement arrived and is all completed, so Tuesday, I'll take it somewhere to fax it back. We're looking forward to picking out our enhancements and planning our reception out!

Now to break the news to our daughter who was in on the whole secret!

Sorry the surprise is out... but now she can have fun planning with you!!

We'd love to see pictures of the dress!!

Aww, it was such a lovely thought to do it as a surprise, but I think she's going to love being involved too! There's always room for a few smaller surprises, after all... ;) I'm looking forward to reading more about your plans!

I love that you were going to do it as a surprise but at least she can help you now!!

Can't wait to read more of your plans!

I love your story, you two just sound like two amazing people :goodvibes Sorry your surprise was ruined! But it will probably be better in the long run because I'm sure she'll enjoy planning with you and that way she'll get exactly what she wants!

Jay sweetie - I am so sorry that your surprise is ruined but it may be for the best!!! Amanda can now loose the weight she wants to and feel even more of a princess on her special day!!
By the way, I have spoken to her on the other English board and she has announced it as 'the biggest surprise ever'!!! She is really blown away with it all!! Well done you - you really hit the mark with this one!!!

Thank you!! It's ok, I am glad she knows now, because it means I know it will be perfect because she'll be a part of make it happen. Bad news today was that the make up/hair lady pulled out. She has recommended another woman, but I will leave that to Amanda now.

I think I did well with my secret choices and now I don't have to hide the dress in a secret suitcase, I can ask Virgin to put it somewhere safe!

I suggest getting a hand luggage sized box from Ebay and having it packed into that so that you can keep it within your sight throughout the flight!! This is what I did and it worked really well!! I was not going to allow my precious dress to go in the hold!!
