Hi Everyone,
I am new around here and would love to meet and chat about my newest project. We are planning out 1st ever trip to WDW and I want to make my 4 kiddos matching outfits. I have google'd and searched to no end for cute ideas & fabrics. I would love to hear if you are working on a similar project.

For the experienced and all knowing ones: where can I buy disney fabrics? The only fabrics I have found are on ebay and etsy, and are apparently hard to find so they come with high prices. I like more simple/conservative fabrics.

And, does anyone have any awesome, unique, great patterns they can recommend. I have lots of Mccall and simplicity ones, but they are pretty basic.

I can't wait to hear who else is planning a custom wardrobe for their May trip.http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/hippie.gif

We are also planning a May 2012 trip and I want to make my kids some clothes. My kids are 5, 6 and 11, so I'm looking at doing shirts with character silhouettes. Well, some anyways. I want to use rhinestones on some.

Some ideas I have -
Minnie Mouse
Rapunzel (found an embroidery pattern that I think I'll do in rhinestones - probably on a purple tie dye shirt)
Ariel - saw a nice silhouette of her on a rock in the water

Not sure what else yet. Will ask the kids about characters. Maybe Dumbo flying.

But I want to bling some converse shoes with Minnie's head and duoble ruffle ribbons for shoestrings.

I'd like to do something for the Royal Table dinner.

Maybe a castle silhouette with fireworks for another.

That's my thoughts so far. I'm still looking for ideas and inspiration.

They sell Disney fabric at Joanne Fabrics. It is usually an overall print with one character or a small group of characters. Also at Joanne's they sell patches that you can iron on/sew on to clothes.

MIGHT I SUGGEST depending on the ages/sizes of your kids the color-your-own Disney shirts that they sell at Joanne's as well. Plain white tee with outlines of characters (Mickey and friends, Cars, Toy Story, Princesses, Fairies) that you can color with fabric markers! It would be cool because you could get the kids involved.

One of our Walmarts carries Disney print fabric. (The other 2 have discontinued that dept).

I make DH and DS shirts and me a dress from the same printed material. All from simple patterns. (I do good to sew a straight seam).

The first year we stayed at AKL, I found an "African" theme print at JoAnn's. We wear these on the days we go to AK.

Good luck with your project.

Those sound like great ideas. I need to plan some bling on an outfit or too as well. Gotta have a lil bling :0)

None of the JoAnn's out here carry any mickey fabrics!! I so wish they did. I checked on-line and they only have some flannel prints.
My daughter did see the color-in t-shirts at JoAnns and wanted to try them. I think I might get them to wear for the car-ride over. Oh, maybe they could color them on the drive over too!!! Awesome thanks :)

We have one wal-mart! Lol. They took the fabric dept away and just recently brought it back. The lady said they took it away while they re-planned and remodeled the inside (which took over 2 years.) So maybe your walmarts will get their depts back too. Since the dept is basically new they don't have too much.

So far I have figured out color combinations for each day and picked out a few patterns.
Epcot - Teal & Red
HS - wht & blk
MK - Pink (day 1) & Purple & Green (Day 2)
AK - Brown & Khaki w/animal prints
And a few t-shirts with Mickey heads (One that says "1st trip to Disney World 2012") for most other days and anything else we do.

:hippie:
