Planning for Old Key West

OKW is one of our home resorts, we just love it there. For a long time I just wasn't sure it was "Disney" enough, but it's just so comfortable there. As others have said, Olivia's is terrific (let's try to keep a lid on that little secret)

Which resorts share DME service with Old Key West?

On all of our DME trips, OKW has been the first stop from MCO. The other stops are SSR, POFQ, and POR (not sure in what order).

On the return, after OKW, the DME motorcoach stops at SSR before continuing to MCO. I guess it first stops at POFQ and POR. I can't confirm that because sometimes the bus is empty when it reaches our stop at OKW..

OKW is my favorite resort The Studios are the largest of any DVC resort. Near HH really isn't that great IMHO. We stayed on Millers Road and Penninsular Road once in building 62 which has elevators and i felt it was just as close as requesting HH which is a separate booking category. When i requested Near HH i got building 11 in a ground floor studio and i think building 62 is a shorter walk to HH. Goods to go has the refill station as well as Turtle Shack Pool Bar i believe down in Turtle Pond section

Love OKW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will be there next week!
I am not as much of a fan of the HH area as I am of Southpoint or Turtle Creek area. HH has always strick me as noisy the times I've stayed there.
Southpoint has a quiet pool w/o snack bar.
Turtle Point has a quiet pool w/snack bar. The snback bar tends to be open durng the warmer months. We have been there in January and the snack bar has been closed.

Getting around without a car is no problem. Every section has a bus stop and the busses run like they do in every other resort. If you're in one of the outer areas (far from HH) and don't want to walk, you can jump on any bus to get to HH because they usually always stop at HH on the way out of the resort.

Count me in with the OKW is one of the best kept Disney secrets crowd! It has been our home resort since '93 and just feels like home when we drive in. I feel like I half raised my kids there!

I have always been a little amused by those that talk about how "spread out" and huge OKW is. Is it those things? Yes, I suppose it is. But wait, there's more! LOL! Anyone ever walked a mile and a half down one of those looooong corridors at say, BoardWalk or Kidani?? Holy cow! You can hike for a WHILE. The walk from a villa/room at BW can be way longer to the bus stop than one might ever encounter at OKW's multiple bus stops. And please, I am NOT bashing any other resorts, just pointing out some things I don't think folks always think about. If you do have a car, I MUCH prefer the condo-type setting where I can park my car, groceries and little ones pretty close to my villa as opposed to parking a mile away and hiking down long halls carrying the the aforementioned. Just my personal preference.

The buses at OKW do not stop at any other resorts on their way to the parks. It's a straight shot and I have never found the bus system at OKW to be less than satisfactory and as others have mentioned, the boat ride to/from DS is pretty cool too.

Do I want everyone to love OKW as much as me? NO WAY. I like being able to book my favorite resort without a major hassle. I love the CM's there and the overall feel. And I am one of those members that will NOT stay near HH. I always ask to be far away. That leaves one more villa available to ya'll that want to request HH! Yay!
