Hi,

I have a vacation to Oahu planned for Feb 1-9, 2006 and it sounded wonderful when I made the reservation, but now I really don't want to go. It's not a monitary thing or anything like it's just that I really don't want to go and has gotten to the point where I'm trying to talk myself into going. That is never a good sign about a vacation. Thanks to vacation insurance, I can get the whole amount back minus the trip insurance cost, so that's not a big deal.

I think a good part of it is the fact that I really had my heart set on my first ever Cancun trip (have already been to Oahu) since early this year, but had to change plans because of Hurricane Wilma. I think the rest has to do with me taking vacations early in the year and never leaving myself with much if any time left at the end, which I really want to prevent next year.

Hmmm.... I'll take that trip for you!

Ok, I have never been to Hawaii but I have been to Cancun and to tell you the truth, you will probably be disappointed with Cancun when you go. There are some neat things about Cancun, the sand on the beaches is like walking on powder and the water is bluer then blue. The ruins at some of the Eco Parks and such are neat as well but my guess is that it doesn't compare to Hawaii for scenery, etc. Cancun is building after building after building. Oh, and DH got sicker then a dog in Cancun and spent about 3 days in the bathroom pretty much non stop. Does that make Hawaii sound better?

Tracey1974,

I'm sure many people would and normally so would I, but not this time around.

golfgal,

The strange thing is that I would go to WDW in a heart beat, but can't get myself excited about Oahu.

If you really don't want to go, don't go and save the money for a vacation you really want to take. :) I was having doubts about whether I really wanted to go to DL and went even though I didn't really wanted to. Of course I was excited a bit but didn't really want to go. I went on the trip anyway (didn't have a great time) and now I wish I had saved the money for a different vacaton.

MinnieM21,

Thanks for your story. I think what drove me to choose Hawaii, wasn't so much Hawaii itself, but it being a warm climate place with a beach.

Have you been to Maui? I much prefer it to Oahu. If you're interested in seeing something like humpback whales, they return there every year December-April. Maui is more laidback than Oahu but there is a lot to do there and, of course, it's absolutely beautiful and it does have wonderful beaches. Maybe you could consider a change to this island and still enjoy some warm weather in the middle of winter. :)

This happened to me earlier this year. I had our trip all planned (minus airline tix) to Disney in October. I had a few days to make the deposit on my ressie and I just couldn't do it. I really just did not want to go. I had many reservations about taking the baby and my mom and the whole free dining plan was just complicated. So we decided not to go. Just DH and I went to Cancun instead. Guess who visited us while we were there? :rolleyes1

Beth76,

Thanks. This is why I got vacation insurance, just incase something comes up. I know that the TA probably won't be to happy with me cancelling, but that's what the "cancel for now reason" insurance is for.

Heck maybe I will just head back to WDW since I enjoy it so much or maybe even a cruise. I have wanted to go on one of those for the longest time and maybe this is the time to try it, plus I can do a Sat-Sat trip and only have to take 5 days off instead of 7.

I get cold feet before vacations everytime.....I get into the planning process and then fret about it...I think of every possible reason I should not go....everything that could possible go wrong while I am gone....I literally try to talk myself out of going....Fortunately my dh is gung ho about going and keeps me on track.

I think you should save the money and cancel. Sill to go if you don't want to.

Me, too. I was so sick in Cancun. I can't imagine ever returning.

OP- Have you visited the Polynesian Cultural Center? I love it there. There's so much beautiful "scenery."

If you aren't all that excited to be going, I would definitely cancel. Save your vacation days and money and go when/where you will feel good about. :)

This happened to me. I had a trip all planned to Las Vegas with other families. Six weeks before DH and I decided we really didn't want to go back to Vegas and changed our plans to WDW. So glad we did. Go with your heart. :)

Jason, you had better check your trip insurance policy. Usually cancellation is only allowed for an illness that prevents you from traveling. You may have to be "creative" if you want to be reimbursed.

DawnCt1,

I rechecked to make sure I read it correctly and it specifically says even on my confirmation paperwork, "Cancel for any reason" travel protection included. All I lose is the $109 a paid for the insurance. On the TA site, it says cancel for any reason even if you change your mind and you will get a full refund minus the cost of the insurance policy.

Everyone,

Thanks for your feedback. I am going to send my TA a quick e-mail asking her to cancel out my reservation and start the refunding process.

This happened to me with our trip to WDW earlier this month. It sounded like a good idea at the time since our DD got married on 11/12. I thought it would be a great way to get over the wedding stress.

As 12/2 drew closer, I started wishing that we never planned it. I still had turkey day decorations out and we'd be getting home two weeks before Christmas. I have to say, the trip to WDW ended up being just what I needed to get in the Holiday spirit.

I'm sure that you'll find that quite a few of us have second thoughts. Once we're there, those doubts seem to vanish 99.9% of the time.

On a side note, my DS and his girlfriend went to Cancun this summer. While they just missed the hurricane, they weren't thrilled with the destination.

I always get "trip planning let down" right before I go. Go and enjoy yourself. There is nothing like getting out of the cold into the warmth in the middle of the winter. If you still feel like this then I agree with another poster, go to another island you haven't been to before. Good luck.
