Hampton Court is one of the easiest places to get to from central London by public transport.
Get a normal train (not underground) from Waterloo Station to Hampton Court Station. Both are terminus stations so you can't miss your stop. You will still be inside the Oyster card area (just - zone 6 I think). It takes 30 minutes. Once at Hampton Court the palace is a 5-10 minute walk from the station, just across the bridge, you can't miss it.
Your palace entry ticket includes an audio guide and live costumed tours (check the daily schedule once you are there.) There are often 2 for 1 ticket offers for those travelling by train. https://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/hampton-court-palace
I love this place (but am probably a bit biased as I only live a 10 minutes drive away.)
