Planning a day trip to Islands of Adventure

Newbie to this forum and Universal, forgive me if these questions are naive. I live in the Orlando area and plan on seeing the Blue Man Group one night in September. I thought it might make sense to stay the night at the Hard Rock or one of the hotels that offers the Universal equivalent of EZ pass and visit the Islands of Adventure. Is this feasable? Can I buy this type of option with only a one night stay? Would I be able to cover most of what that park has to offer if I got there when it opened and I did not have to wait on the lines? Is there a discount for Florida residents? Is there a food plan for one day? Thanks.

All the hotels offer an Express pass, which is unlimited and is just your room key. If you stay one night you get it for the day you check in and the day you check out. The express pass is free

With unlimited express you will be able to do just about everything, but Harry Potter will have big crowds and one of the rides doesn't allow express pass (Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey). Hotel guests have early entry (one hour early) for Harry Potter if you are interested in it.
(Also Pterodactyl Flyers doesn't allow express pass, but chances are you would be too tall for it anyway, unless you are bringing kid)

There is a food plan for one day for about 20 dollars, it includes unlimited food at select counter service restaurants and for around 6-7 dollars more you can get a cup with free refills (but unless you plan on staying the entire day and eating around 2+ meals, it may not be worth it).
