Planning 201 vs Reality 101 Our Jan/Feb 07 trip - lots of photos, FINAL 3/31

Reruns on TV :happytv: AND I can upload to Flickr again :cool1: ..... time to pick up where I left off

Thanks for reading and letting me know you enjoy it. It sure is fun to share! Going through my pictures, it seems we stopped taking as many pictures as the trip went on. Dang!

Day 5, Wednesday January 31st (warmer but still about 50 in the AM, nice afternoon/evening)

Planning 201: Sleep in from Kona/Adult night out, MK day for me and the girls – riding any rides they wanted, DH meet up with Orlando friend and catch up with us at MK later, Crystal Palace at 4:50, SpectroMagic and Wishes.

Reality 101: Amanda couldn't stand it any longer. We had a big, gorgeous pool at our hotel and she hadn't been in it yet  (due to other plans and it was COLD out). I finally caved and at 9 AM, after calling housekeeping to complain about the wet floor in our room (the towel I put down was soaking wet and so was the 2nd towel I put down), I dumped some clothes in the washing machine :laundy: and took her to the main pool. This was our easy morning, no harm to my planning. Amy stayed and rested with Daddy and watched cartoons. Her fever was gone :thumbsup2 and she said she felt fine but we thought it was best for her to rest. Amanda was so happy to be in the pool. Personally, I was in a winter coat and was enjoying watching the steam come off the water (argh, why didn't I bring the camera!). She swam for about 30 minutes and many people, also wearing heavy coats, asked if she was 1/2 polar bear. I let her swim in the smaller pool near the laundry room while the clothes dried for another 30 minutes. The pool was heated and warm, but it was cold when she got out. I called lost and found while she swam and success! They had my sunglasses. :dance3:

We went back to the room and got Amy and headed to lost and found (bus ride to MK, ferry boat to Ticket and Transportation Center). After getting my sunglasses :cool2: , we went to MK via Monorail while DH visited with a friend that lives in Orlando. The girls and I ate lunch at The Plaza. It was good food for a fair price ($25, 1 ATS, 1 CTS would have been cheaper with out desserts but those are of course included in the dining plan). Amy said her tummy hurt and only ate 1/2 of a banana that we picked up at the bakery next to The Plaza ($1).

I saw a child doing the Tinkerbell photo - thank goodness! I had forgotten all about that pose (hold you hand out and they superimpose Tinkerbell into the photo) so I had the girls do that (still waiting on my photopass CD .... insert here :)

We then went off to hang out in Toon Town a bit and rode Amy's favorite ride. She loves that the coaster crashes into the barn.

A spin on the horses was next.

407335067_9274e58a13_b.jpg

Oh! I forgot about the sword in the stone. Amanda really tried to get it out, she pulled hard!

Then, Amanda talked Amy into trying Haunted Mansion again. The girls started chanting “Haunted Mansion” over and over like Children of the Corn. Darn if we didn't wait in queue only to have her run out screaming again! :scared1: Amanda went through the ride by herself since she was already half way in the door. I had Amy take the photopass with me in front of the horseless carriage. They add a ghost onto the photo. Neat (again, insert photopass CD :)

A ride on BTMR was next. Amanda asked the CM if she could be in the first car and he agreed. She was thrilled to be in the front car AND all by herself in it

DH met up with us and we had some Dole Whips (yum!) and rode a few more rides (Adventureland)

Amanda loved the Spitting Camel

After a ride on Buzz Lightyear (we rode this ride a lot this trip because it was always a walk on), we found Stitch all alone! The girls got to play with him for about 5 minutes. Amanda gave him a kiss goodbye

Next up, dinner at Crystal Palace ($102, 2 ATS, 2CTS).

The girls were surprised to see Pooh and gang there! Amy started saying her throat hurt so she was quiet most of dinner and rather miserable some of the time. Amanda enjoyed the buffet concept, especially the dessert and asked how many times she was allowed to go back and get food. She saw the kids doing a mini parade with the characters when we first got there. DH mentioned to the waiter that she would like to get in the parade behind Piglet since she loves pigs. When the next parade started, the waiter come over and got Amanda and let her hold Piglet's hand during the parade! She loved it and the waiter got an extra tip that night.

We have video with Piglet but no still shot. Oh well, here are some with the rest of the gang:

You can see Amy isn't feeling too well in this shot

It was about 6:15 when we finished and we headed out to secure a spot for Spectro nighttime Parade and Wishes Fireworks. We found one of the last curb spots left with 45 minutes until the show. Amanda got to jump rope with some cast members in street. Then, DH and Amanda went to ride Space Mountain while Amy rested (obviously not feeling well but not complaining either) in the stroller waiting for the parade to start. The parade was amazing. Amanda was thrilled to see Ariel again. A butterfly came over and shook her hand at one point. Wishes was spectacular. Amy fell asleep in the stroller on the way back to the entrance.

We get back to the room and there is a big industrial fan trying to dry our floors. Lovely. No note from housekeeping, no message on the phone. We unplugged it and both girls were asleep as soon as they hit their pillows.

Conclusion: The main concept of the day went as planned. The swimming was a perk for Amanda, the lost and found was a fun side trip because of the ferry boat and monorail ride. The wet hotel floor was getting annoying. Another great day at Disney (can I go back yet :thumbsup2 )

I'm dying to know more about your trip. We'll be there this Thursday :mickeyjum ...and we're SO excited. :tigger: I have a very tall 40 in 3 1/2 yr old ...and I'm hoping she'll be able to do so much more than last year. I cracked up out loud :rotfl2: when your little one ran screaming out of the haunted mansion. I think we'll skip it. Wouldn't want her to have nightmares. :maleficen I can't wait to find out if Amy made it through the trip...she sounds like she had the flu! That would be MY nightmare! :scared1:

6 MORE DAYS!!!!!

Enjoying the report, looking forward to more and the Photopass PIctures:rotfl2:

party:

Isn't sickness on vacation the worst?! You plan for months on end for a few days of awesomeness and then .... BAM ... someone gets sick during those few precious days of the year. It just isn't fair!!

Have a great time on your trip. Sounds like you have a talll 3 1/2 year old :) Amy just barely made 41 inches at 4 1/4 years old!

Another great chapter!!

Thanks .... I guess I better get a report up before Sunday. I know you will be by the TV with the rest of the Triangle gearing up for the big game :happytv:

(of course I am talking about the UNC/Duke Game, not the Hurricanes game :lmao: )

You said you left at 9, with a plan of 6 ..... when was your most recent trip? do you drive all the way down in one day?

The photo of your girls holding hands with Mickey is priceless!!! :goodvibes

Yes! One of my favorites of the trip! The CM still had DH's camera. The girls were walking away and I said "quick!! Get that shot!!" He took 2, that was the best of the 2 :goodvibes

Thanks!

I was looking at your TR earlier (didn't realize it was *you*) and Amy crawled up with me and asked who the baby girl was. I said Alice. She watched me read the report and kept commenting ... "why is alice jumping on the bed" "awww, look at Alice with Eeyore" (a BIG awwww, she loves that photo! asked me to go back to it after I went to the next page).

She wants to type so here is Amy:

Day 6 Thursday, February 1st (Forecast for 80 today!)

Planning 201: Norway Princess lunch at 11:45 (everything crossed that Ariel would be there that day but the girls didn't even know a princess lunch was planned - remmeber 1/2 the reason we are there is because of Amanda's love of Ariel!). Epcot in the AM if we felt up to an early morning or in the PM after lunch if we wanted an easy morning.

Reality 101: No rest for the weary! Off to opening at EPCOT (after calling housekeeping to say the fan didn't do any good, 3 more towels were soaking wet and the floor was still wet). Yes, the floors were awful but how was Amy? She was Fine! Yea! No fever, no tummy ache, no sore throat. On we go!! I just can't imagine having to give up a vacation day for a sick child - I was so happy we weren't dealing with that.

A good decision to get to EPCOT for opening! We were headed straight for Test Track. Amy did great with Big Thunder at MK, but this ride was much faster. How would she do? After all, she is my baby and only FOUR! :confused3

Before we could get there, the girls got pulled aside by the custodial cast members on our way to Test Track. They asked them to play a recycling game and awarded them with certificates when they finished. Fun!

407353225_9f44f7d6e0.jpg

We got to Test Track after that and the cast members told us there was no wait, just as long as it took us to walk through the queue. Awesome! We went through the ride and we all loved it! We got to the unloading zone and they said nobody was in line and we could go again if we wanted. I made sure Amy had survived the high speed testing and she was good to go.:cool1: We were able to ride it 3 times in a row without getting off. We were bummed to see people waiting when we came back the last time :)

I love that they have photopass for the pictures on this ride. However, they could have picked a better place to take the actual photo. It is right before you head out the doors. Not very exciting facial expressions. (INSERT photopass photos here when they arrive :) Our first few photos were boring. After we knew where the camera was, we hammed it up!

We went over to Soarin after a stop for pins. The lady at the pin kioask suggested we go if the wait is 20 minutes or less and make sure we ask for front row. The wait was right at 20 minutes so we went in and it was probably only a 15 minute wait. We got the requested front row too. What an amazing ride! We ended up riding Soarin 3 times this trip. Once we ended up in 3rd row. Never again ... no fun seeing feet, it takes a lot away from the ride. Wait for front row!!

At one point during the day, Amy told us there was no dancing allowed on the rides. We agreed with her and left it at that - sure, no dancing on the ride, that wouldn't be good. She commented on it again the next ride. It turns out, she was looking at the sign that was a circle with a cross through it indicating that you need to keep your hands and feet in the ride and she thought the people were dancing in the picture. Funny!

The new Finding Nemo ride was OK, Amy really liked it but I thought they could have done more with it. The girls got to ask the scuba diver a question in the aquarium. Amy asked "Do you have a badge" (nobody knew what she was talking about but they were all good sports about it ... maybe she thought he was a police officer?). It was funny that he wrote "cheese" for the photo:
407338884_e882870b46.jpg

Amanda asked him how long he could stay underwater (as long as he has air in his tank - up to 1 1/2 hours) and then we headed to Norway for lunch.

Amanda thought it was funny to walk through Mexico and go to Norway for lunch. Another surprise for the girls..... the princesses are here for lunch ($100, 2 ATS, 2 CTS) The only princess they hadn't seen at this point was Sleeping Beauty. She was the greeter today and we ended up with a really cute photo and autographs. (side note, when they came back with the photos for $32, I asked if they were photopass and they said no so we bought it because our Cinderella photos were awful and this one was really good. I didn't know it at the time but there is actually a number on the edge of the large photo that is a photo pass number. I was able to add to my photopass account and it has all the photos from that photoshoot with Princess Aurora) In one of the photos (not one of the ones we bought but the cutest of the day!) Amy is handing Princess Aurora a flower. It was Amanda's idea and Amanda was bummed that her flower broke before she could give it to the princess but very cute shot of Amy.

Anyway, here is an photo from the opening, photopass to come later

407353236_3697246549.jpg

While dining on interesting Norwegian foods, the girls were very happy to see Jasmine, Cinderella, Snow White and ....... Ariel with feet! Amanda couldn't believe Ariel said the girls were her new best land friends. They talked about daddies and dinglehoppers.

407353240_8fe845a9c2_b.jpg

It was nice that Ariel noticed Amanda's t-shirt and commented that she loved her daddy, King Triton, too!

The Norway boat ride was a big hit. After a ride on Mission Space for DH and Amanda, we headed back to the hotel to hit the pool. It was the first really warm day.

407353239_6c71488a2a.jpg

The girls and I swam for about 45 minutes. Amy (cold and tired) and I headed back to move all of our things to a new room. Housekeeping had finally left a message while were were at EPCOT that there was a leak in the room above ours and we could have a new room. Gee thanks, I only had to call for 2 days. Luckily, the room was only 2 doors down. And, it got me to start packing up some things for the inevitable departure. DH and Amanda stayed at the pool. Amanda ended up swimming for about 4 hours that afternoon. The lifeguard seemed impressed with her ability to go down the slide so many times. :rotfl:

Amy and I joined DH and Amanda for dinner ($33, 3 CS and $8 OOP wings) by the pool after we moved our clothes/luggage/food/drinks and souvenirs. I know it wasn't the hotels fault with the leak but they really could have done a better job responding to my calls.
