My sister and son are comming with me again this summer for our vacation to disneyworld and its a 2 hr flight. My son loves it although looking out the window scares him. Last yr we flew for the first time ever and everything was great accept one big thing......

Both my sister and my son expericed ear pain and although i did feel some discomfort it went away when i drunk water. My sister was actually almost in tears and shes 25 yrs old and my son could not hear anything the whole trip and for about a half hr after the plane landed. My question is how can I help them both enjoy the flight without what my sister calls the unbearable pressure and pain in the ears???

The change in altitude is what causes the discomfort/pain. What usually helps is to yawn REALLY big, chew gum, swallowing (either by eating, drinking, or just dry-swallow), or if you're really having problems, pinch your nose shut, and blow really hard with your mouth closed tight, making your checks blow out. Any of these things will help your ears to "pop" and relieve the presure. And many people find their ears pop all on their own, not everyone has to do these things. All the times I've flown, I've only had pain once, for some odd reason I couldn't get my ears cleared no matter what I did, and boy did it hurt! No idea why, either, it hadn't happened before or since!

In the pharmacy section of Wal*Mart or your local grocer is aproduct called Ear Planes. You stick them in your ears prior to them closing the door, and leave them in until they reopen the door. It will help eaqualize the pressure.

I am 40, and up until I discovered EarPlanes, I could NOT fly without severe ear pain, tears, and general miserableness. Now, I won't fly without them, and keep a pair or two in the house at all times, so I'll have them for anything that comes up last minute.

They make adult and child sized ones.
