Plane crash near our HHI beach

Yes, that is the area where the Beach House is located. The Marriott is the second resort to the north - about 100 yards from the beach in front of the Disney location.

We've walked on that beach hundreds of times over the years.

Sad.

No kidding, what are the odds of being hit by a plane while walking on the beach? Must have hit him from behind, surely you would see a plane heading at you from the front. That's just sad and very strange.

The victim was jogging and listening to his IPOD and the engine was shot off on the plane.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC/AP) - A 38-year-old jogger from Georgia was killed after a single-engine plane making an emergency landing hit him as he ran on a South Carolina beach listening to his iPod.

The coroner said Tuesday that Robert Gary Jones of Woodstock, Ga., apparently did not hear the troubled plane that struck him from behind on Hilton Head Island The plane had lost its propeller and the pilot's vision was blocked by oil on the windshield.

Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen says he plans to conduct an autopsy. He says Jones was married and had two children.

The local news said it was in Palmetto Dunes beach area, so, it would be near our beach indeed.

Yes......The plane landed on the other side of the Marriott. If you are facing the ocean with your back to the Disney Beach Club the Marriott is on the your left hand side.

We have walked there so many times. My wife and I joke about buying on of the houses right there when we hit the lottery. That stretch of houses is where the plane landed.

The poor man was from Woodstock, GA. He was married and a father to 2 young kids. How sad.
