DDs are 10 & 8, will there be any planned activities at SSR for them to do? We're already signed up for the AKL Adventure Camp on Saturday, but I'd like them to have a little more 'away from Mom' time (since we homeschool, it's a treasured commodity for me AND for them! ;) )

What is the adventure trip and for what ages is it for? Thanks

They do have activities at Community Hall, but these are actually supposed to be family activities and not baby sitting events.

well, if you are specifically thinking of things for them to do without you, I'm not sure. I thought on allearsnet.com it listed some thinks like a princess tea, a pirate activity, etc. These are all pricey though, i think, and could really add up. Otherwise, I would say the pool, riding bikes, there's a petting zoo over at Ft. Wilderness, but I'm not sure they can go by themselves.

The AKL Adventure Camp is for ages 6-14. It's from 10am-2pm on Saturdays and includes lunch. They were painting ostrich eggs as part of the activity, but since the AKL ostriches quit laying for the winter, they had to drop that portion of it! Last I heard, they were trying to come up with a comparable activity, but still had plenty for the kids to do.

I didn't phrase my question very well (I was having a "mom moment"), but what I was hoping for are some activities that someone else can direct, but I can hang back for. It's hard being the one "up front" all the time. We try to do one thing (pirate cruise, kid's club, adventure camp) each trip to have some down time and we've done a whole weekend at AKL just doing their kid activities, so I didn't know if SSR had something similar.

Thanks for the tips!

My DS's are the same age and they really enjoy Community Hall. At check in they will give you the schedule of activities. CH is open from 9am -10 pm daily. The last scheduled activity is normally around 7:30pm, which you will find is a great offering compared to the other onsite CH's which stop around 3 or 4pm. We take a magnet and put the schedule on the Villa door. The boys are more into the table games (Ping Pong, Foosball, PS2) but I enjoy the craft activities and they also like the pool games. I enjoy the ceramics. They can select a piece and paint it and then they fire it for you. Last trip we made Ice Cream, rode Surrey bikes, made magnets, backpacks etc. The rec staff at SSR is excellent. They are really hands on and encouraging. They have great supplies and many of the activities are free or low cost.
HTH!

I have to 2nd that. The community hall at SSR is the best of any DVC in my opinion. Also, with Downtown Disney being so close, do they like to play with Lego's? The Lego Store is good for our family.
