Maybe a little bit of humor... when I encounter close-mindness like this and i know a lecture will not cut through the thick heads..... I say this "I think they should be allowed to marry ~ why should I be the one to suffer, (and here is the kicker) because God made me straight?

I have actually had a couple people look at me and almost get it... and one decide to argue with me about God making me straight...

I cannot believe that this kind of legislative crap exists in the U.S. I guess being from the NY/NJ metopolitan area, I kind of forget that there are still plenty of people in the U.S. who are completely homophobic. I can't believe that there are people who still believe people choose to be gay -- that makes sense. I want to be gay so I can be treated as a second class citizen, so I can be verbally abused on the streets, so I can be made to live in shame and fear -- all because that's what I choose. Ridiculous.

OP: I'm so sorry that you weren't treated with dignity and respect in speaking out for what you believe in. I also give you all the respect you deserve because I don't know, honestly, that I could have done the same thing. I'm ashamed to say it, but it's true. Had I been with a group of people who would have supported me, I think it might have been easier, but being on my own, I really don't know if I could have done it. I aspire to be like you some day. For now, I hope I'm doing my part by raising my daughter to respect all people, regardless of sexual orientation, color, religion etc.

I had to look up the lyrics to Love At Home, since I was unfamiliar with it. If those words don't support all marriage, and all families based on love, then I don't know what does.
You've inspired me to write to my diocesan newspaper to argue against Prop 8 in CA. I'm really sick of what some of the "pooh-bahs" are saying. Thanks for being a role model.
