I've been to the Animal Kingdom twice, now tho both times it was brief and I saw verrrrrrrrrry little, so while I am down there in Oct I plan to do a proper exploration of this park. I will be going solo at the time. Whats the best plan of attack for seeing the most of the animal kingdom while still going at somewhat of a laid back pace (which seems what is truly needed to appreciate the park) Certain attractions better to see early in the day or fill up fast. Things should see and things I should skip?

thanks

we found the safari to be much better in the am, the animals were lots more active and some we couldn't even see inthe pm( lions out and moving, didn't even see them pm , baby elephant playing in am ect)

safari and lion king are don't misses imo. the animal trails are really good ( gorilla habitat is exceptional) and ask the cms about the animals. they were a wealth of info. imo take the time to look around and see the details, enjoy the musicians ect. i think this park is "all inthe details" so take your time. when else will most ever spend any time in africa????? we just loved it ( no kidding as i gush on ans on)

we didn' t ride the rapids as it was too cold so can't comment on that

we went to am emh, went on safari and ttbabug, some of the trails at discovery island before the park opened. went to conservation station area late in the day..they were making up food for the animals and had an interesting talk with the cm about that but i heard the vets usually work am so depends on what you wan to do there. i think i'd head over to dino area pretty early also as the play ground was pretty busy mid afternoon( if you have little kids who might be nterested in playing there, it was ok for just a walk thru for us old " second childhood kids".

the only thing you might skip if you have a sensitive stomach is primeval whirl..it spins a lot, constantly, which i found fun but others might not, some of the other shows might not be great for repeat visits but if you haven't seen them they are worth a look at least once.

I've been on the rapids, Bugs life and Dinosaur, enjoyed all 3. I found the rest of the dino area tacky (even if it was intentional it was still very undisney IMO) but I didnt have a chance to check out any of the rest of the park, I will definitely hit the safari early....sleeping animals or animals MIA isnt something I want to see :rotfl:

Don't skip the Discovery Island Trails to get a real feel for the park. I spend time there every time I'm at AK solo. You can enter across from Pizzafari or in back of the FP machines to ITTBAB. They're not well marked, but well worth the time once you find the trail.

Love to Ride the Safari in AM and PM... Get schedules for Lion King / Pocohantas (most adults would probably skip this) Fit in Flights of Wonder (on other side of park from Lion King!) Everything else, we go and enjoy, we talk to the CM's, loved the bats, the Gorillas, the trails are so interesting if you can get a CM to chat with you!!

We spent 2 days there, and never made it to the Dinosaur area!! :rotfl2:

We only did the safari once and it was in the afternoon in July and very hot! None of the animals were hanging around so I would def say in the morning or later in the afternoon would be smart.

We went on Dinosaur and LOVED it, it was soooo early we were able to ride about 5 times before moving along.

I just wanted to interject here and say Do not miss Flights of Wonder! I never in a million years would have thought I would be posting about how great the bird show is, but I really don't think many people realize how neat it is. The end of the show kind of focuses on conservation, and it actually brought a tear to my eye. Very, very well done. Add this one to your "Plan of Attack," for sure! :teeth:

Have A Wonderful Trip!!!

If you have the time I think you would really enjoy the backstage safari. It is a behind the scenes tour of the park. They take you to a number of the animal holding areas and sometimes let you interact with an animal. We actually got to pet a white rhino! I had no idea how big they are until we got up close. They also took us into the aviary and talk alot about conservation and Disneys breeding programs. We ended the tour with our own private safari. We got to go through the usual trails but without the little red story. Instead our guides explained how the different sections were laid out and how the animals are kept in their different areas. They also pointed out several hidden Mickeys. The tour starts at 8:30 and finishes about 11:30. The cost was around 60 dollars and I felt it was well worth it.

well it would seem many recommend Flights, so I will definitely fit it in. I will be down there again in Nov. so if I miss something I'll get another chance. But it'll be a big group of us then and it always seems like many things get rushed and I want to take some time and really enjoy the park this time down. I'll be there Oct8-oct12th. My sister has a conference so I 'invited' myself ;) We'll do the magic kingdom on the day we arrive and have MNSSHP on the 11. I am looking forward to checking out all the parks solo if I can, never done that. I usually go down with a group, often my younger cousins and its run from one section to another.

That sounds like an awesome way to tour WDW. Just enough time with someone else, and some solo time, too. The people watching alone makes a solo trip appealing! :earboy2:

Enjoy every minute!!! :wave2:

Yes, the Pocohontas show! I like to go to the animal training ones-they're very interesting. Fortunately, the day I was at AK solo last, they had 2 animal training shows. The one in the afternoon was different-it had the animals who'd kind of "messed up" in the morning (maybe too slow on their cue) and needed a little reinforcement. It was soo interesting. AK is my favorite park to do solo.

My advice to you is do not miss ANY shows. Work out how you can see them all and then fit the other stuff in between.

A good way is to see Lion King first thing, or do the safari first thing.. then check out Tarzan, and flights of Wonder. Dinosaur seems to be pretty emtpy much of the time now, so you can hop in there as you pass.
We love everything at AK except my son will not do Its tough to be a bug again.. he hated it!

enjoy your solo trip

I'll be doing my first solo 3 days in March (Fri-Sun). I'm planning on hitting a little of all 4 parks. Then Mon morn a friend and her daughter will be joining me for 4 days of the parks.

I had thought I had read that its tough to fit in all the shows at AK because of the shorter hours and the way they are staggered. I generally love most of the shows Disney puts on. (man I loved the Pocohantas show they had at MGM when that movie first hit) I'll be sure to get to the park early and get a show time schedule.
