I just found $49 flights to Sanibel Island, and we would like to go there in early December. My DH and I went there many years ago, but we didn't stay on the island.
Does anyone have any good suggestions for places to stay? We don't want to pay a fortune since this would be a budget trip for about 4 days.

I think the kids would really enjoy finding all the neat shells on the beach.

Thanks!

Not sure if these are only rented by the week but 2 years ago we stayed in a complex called Sanibel Arms West- we loved it. Right on the beach, screened in community pool, lovely units, and on and on and on- and we found it to be affordable. We were there Thanksgiving week

I wish I could help but we stayed for a week 6/29-7/5 at the Country Inn and Suites just off Sanibel in Fort Myers we were 1 mile from the causeway. We payed $79 a night for a 1 bedroom suite under their summer special. It was a decent hotel. We are going back in November for 5 nights and this time we are staying at the New Residence Inn in Ft Myers which is about 1.5 miles from Sanibel.

We drove around Sanibel and Captiva and there were some cute resorts along the way. The only reason we aren't staying on the Islands is because we are really budget concious and couldn't pass up the $103 a night price at the Residence Inn for a 2 bedroom Suite. Plus we like going to both Ft Myers Beach and the Islands so this way we can do both.

I would recommend The Island Cow for a meal on your trip its on Sanibel Island, and I would recommend Schnapper's Hots for a lunch (hotdog/hamburger stand) on Sanibel as well. YUMMY!

Wow $49?!? I'd snap that up too. I know there is a Holiday Inn at Sanibel...another place is 'Tween Waters. I'm a big fan of staying on the island (not off)...but then again I like the laid back atmosphere of the island versus off island. Let me ask a friend who has a place where he would recommend.

By the way, what airline is that $49 deal on?

This place is NOT fancy but definitely cute and right on the beach on West Gulf Drive. I love Waterside Inn and have stayed there four or five times. The cottages have kitchens or kitchenettes and the condos have washer/dryers.
