Places to stay around St. Petes or Gulf coast for Families?

Hi!
We are looking at a few places to stay near the St. Petes area (not needing right in the area, but up and down that coast line). Also want to go to Crystal River, and wondering about places there?

Any suggestions??

We stayed at Sirata Beach Resort in St. Pete beach, and liked it very much.http://www.sirata.com/ They charge $8 parking fee, but when we stayed there was a special with parking and cabana rental which we took.

Bon Aire Resort on St Petes beach is inexpensive and directly on the beach.

My DW and I have stayed a few times at the HoJo on St. Pete's Beach. Been a few years but they did have family Suites. It is right on the beach and has never been that expensive. Best of all (and I hope it is still there), there is a little beach bar just down the beach called Bongo's. Great memories of sitting there watching a Buc's game while on our honeymoon.

Unfortunately the Shell's restaurant that was next door went under not that long ago (had great crab cakes). Hurricane's (more of a local's place) is on the bottom end of the island. It is a 5 min drive and well worth it.

never stayed there but would of loved to stay at the don cesar, the most beautiful looking pink castle hotel. not sure of the cost but check it out. i had the best buffalo shrimp ever there but i cant remember the name of the restaurant. also found an awesome seafood place that was a 10 min drive or so from the beach. sorry not very helpful but was over 13 years ago and hubbys mom had a condo just off the main street. wow this brought up alot of fun memories

Unfortunately the Shell's restaurant that was next door went under not that long ago (had great crab cakes).

Not only that location but all Shell's restaurants in the state of Florida went out of business and it was a shame since that was one of our favorite places to eat at.

Stayed at the Don last year....bliss, pure bliss.
The Sunday Brunch-Champagne and all...absolutely the best I have ever had!!!!!! ANd all at the top of the Resort with a beautiful view of the water..
