We will be visiting my son for four days prior to our Disneyland trip. He lives in Sherman Oaks. Any advice on places to see near there? No time for Universal. Is the Getty Center nearby? Any zoos? My son will take us around Hollywood. Is there a farmers market or anything like that?

The Los Angeles Zoo is about 10 miles away. Getty Center about 8. There is a
nice farmers market every Tuesday on Riverside Drive near Woodman. The
famous Farmers Market and "The Grove" is about 12 miles away.

You wouldn't be too far from Warner Bros and could take that tour.

UCLA and Westwood aren't too far. Santa Monica Pier also isn't very far if you haven't seen that portion of the coast before.

thanks. This will be our first time to LA and Sherman Oaks. We will only have 4 days so not sure how much we will see. Seems like Santa Monica , Observatory and Getty Center will be doable as they are all pretty close( from what others have posted).

Santa Monica can be fun, but the traffic and headache might be a bit of a hassle. I might suggest going to a more quaint beach community in the south bay such as Hermosa or Manhattan. It is a straight shot from the 405 (heading south) and there are some amazing places to dine. There are quite a few Halloween events now too! Check out the indepent haunted houses in the L.A. area, and also you can pick between the Queen Mary, Knotts and Universal Studios. I really recommend the one at the Queen Mary, its a great time but do make sure to go early. Enjoy!
