My DH, DS (6) and I are going on DS's first trip to WDW in August. :cool1: I know because of the heat and DS's age we will need to rest in the middle of the day some days. However, going back to the hotel from Magic Kingdom to rest 2 hours takes a 4 hour chunk out of the day. My DH and I have ridden the train around the park a couple of times when we needed a rest in the past. Other than the train (love the cool breeze :goodvibes ) where is a good place to rest for an hour or more at Magic Kingdom?

if you want to do TS go for a nice long leisurly lunch!!! we love CP!!! However if you are doing only CS then go to Cosmic Rays it's pretty big and you can usually sit for quite a bit!! and the AC is usually overpumped in there :)

It's not that cool (AC wise) but the TTA is also good for a good rest and sometimes you can stay on it for a coupla rounds!!

HTH!!

to the left of the castle going to liberty sq from main st. is a little shady "park" with a bench or two. I sat there a lot last trip.

Our favorite place to rest is riding the Tomorrow Land Transit Authority- the "train" runs in out and through air-conditioned buildings and moves fast enough to cause a breeze for most of the ride- we have found Grandma napping on the train :rotfl2: , we've left the babies with Grandma for a few hours while we rode the MTNS. :cloud9: and the train is great for a relaxing bit of nursing time for the little ones  ! The CM's let you stay on it if there aren't any crowds or anyone waiting to ride-
Also, first aid has areas to rest if the heat gets too much for you. We like to "rest and cool off" at the Mickey's Phil. movie as well.
Hope that gets you started on resting places.

You know what, we like to find a bench and grab some ice cream and people watch. There is a bench in a quiet area away from the attractions on the otherside of tomorrowland. It's kinda of a hidden off to the side kinda place. YOu can see it from when your riding the train. I can't tell you exactly where it is but perhaps another Diser might know!

Tom Sawyer Island is a great place for a break! It's nice and quiet, lots of shade, and room for the little one to just play for a while!

You could always hop the boat or monorail to one of the MK resorts to look around and hang out in the lobby- the boat ride itself is very relaxing! A lot of times if I'm not staying at a MK resort at the time, I'll still take the boat to WL, for instance, grab a snack from Roaring Forks, and sit in the lobby to relax while I eat.

I would suggest spacing out different indoor type shows during the day to get some relief from the heat. The Country Bear Jamboree and Mickey's PhilharMagic are two really good ones. Although my favorite place to cool off is The Hall of Presidents. The queue area for this show is inside a large A/C building with benches along the walls of the queue room. The show itself is over 20 minutes, and if you time it right you can kill 15-20 minutes before the show in the A/C, and then spend another 20 watching the show. (But I'll admit that I'm a bit of a history nut, so this place is right up my alley.)

Carousel of Progress is always a good rest area for my family. It is nice and cool in there, not very crowded and the tune is nice and relaxing!!

I like the Tiki Room in Adventureland too. Air conditioned and dark...and kids are entertained!!!

Our favourites are the Transit Authority...a good rest for tired legs.

Also the spot someone mentioned already near the castle....off the beaten path, lovely and surprisingly quiet...near the wishing well. :goodvibes

I second Tom Sawyer Island. It is very relaxing for adults and in the summer the food place is open for a snack. A lot of times the kids aren't as physically tired as tired of not being kids and letting them relax and run and explore really helps.

TTA or tomorrowland transit authority! BY FAR the best place to take a rest. A nice breeze, some cool things to see, plus a few times (especially more frequently that we've gone) we see SM with the lights on! :woohoo: So cool! And most of the time they'll just allow us to stay on a few rides if there is no one in the line...We LOVE that ride! :thumbsup2

I checked "other" we love spending time ON TOP of the train station. It's really neat to watch the daily workings on the top of the WORLD.

Hall of Presidents. Not only is it VERY well air-conidtioned, but it is a good half hour long. I have never seen it full so I am sure that you could stay for a second showing, but I find the half hour nap is more than enough to get me going for the rest of the day

TTA!

I add my vote for TTA and Carousel of Progress; both of these are my favorite things to do in MK!

I LOVE to people watch! I'm a big chicken don't do many rides, so I spend a lot of time on benchs or walking around in shops. But that's why I love WDW so much, because there is so much to do for us chickens!!

I voted for Riding the trains.
But also riding: riding anything, especially TTA or the boats across the lake to FW and back. Good way to sit, think and relax over the coarse of any hour.

Also, I like to go over to GF and rest in the main lobby area. Maybe have a lemonade. (Does anyone remember the free lemonade that GF used to have in the lobby, good times)

:cool1: :wave2: :thumbsup2

I voted for "other" because you didn't include the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA), in the choices. It's a nice smooth ride, seldom crowded, you can put your feet up on the opposing seats and relax big time, and once around lasts for about ten minutes. In addition, you may elect to stay on for more than one ride without getting out of your seat and reentering. So, if you wanted, for example, a 30 minute break, just stay on for three times around the route.

The train around the park is good too, but not nearly as restfull and peaceful as TTA.

Enjoy.
