Places to plug in?

This will be my first trip using a scooter. It’s one I’m bringing from home, but I’m not wheelchair bound so I only use it for places that require more walking than my stamina can handle. Theoretically, my battery should last the whole day. It says it can go 18-20 miles on a charge, but I don’t want to push it. Are there places in the parks where I can plug it, like when we are eating?

Ask a CM to direct you to an outlet you can use.
since it’s your own, you might want to get the battery checked out before going to make sure its holding a full charge. You can probably also get some hints for conserving battery power - most common recommendation is to charge each night and turn off whenever you are stopped for a period of time. ‘Topping off’ multiple times per day may not be good for your battery if it’s still pretty full.

There are no dedicated places in the parks to plug in an ECV, are there? I know they have phone charging stations, but not sure if they have an outlet for an ECV. But there may be utility outlets that are safe to plug into (follow SueM's advice to ask a CM) - just make sure they are the right kind of outlet. I wouldn't plug into a random one!

not dedicated to ECVs, but there are some plug in places.
At MK, the seating areas in the Rapunzel restroom area have outlets by some of the benches. That’s the only MK place I can think of offhand.
The only place I knew of at Epcot is gone now - it was in Innoventions West near Club Cool. For DVC members, there are outlets to use in the DVC lounge.

We’ve plugged in at some Quick Service locations over the years. Places that come to mind are PecoBills MK, Columbia Harbor House MK, and Restaurantasaurus AK. We just found a table near a wall outlet and plugged in while we were eating. The DVC cart in HS also let us use their outlet when we asked and they didn’t even try to sell us DVC for the favor, lol.

There are some in the Land Pavilion as well.

That being said, some tips to the OP:
  • Repeat after me:
    • "I WILL plug in the scooter every night as soon as I get back to the room without fail."
  • Seriously, plug in when you are in the room, an 18 to 20 mile battery will easily last you all day in the parks.
  • The being said, do watch your battery gauge, but don't panic, even 20% or so is more than enough to get you back to the room, but if it is getting that low, either plan to begin heading out or find somewhere to plug-in. Chances are with the range you mention it will never get that low anyway, as long as you follow the first piece of advice.
  • Do your best to avoid backtracking, this is something that is much easier to do if you are by yourself, in a group, it is much harder.
  • If you have a choice between smooth pavement that is a bit longer distance or a bumpy ground that is a bit shorter, it is often better to take the longer path, your body and battery will both thank you.
  • If you do have to plug in, always ask CMs, as some outlets, particularly in MK are older and operate slightly differently in a way that may damage some modern equipment. Most of these outlets have now been covered, so never use an outlet that has been covered in any shape or form.

Thanks all! We bought new batteries for the trip, so hopefully just charging at night in the room will be enough. I just want to be prepared just in case.

What model scooter and what are the Ah on the batteries? Some of us here will likely be able to let you know with that information.

Ah, a power chair, I will have to defer to others to advise on distance for that. Scooters I ha e learned a lot about, but no so much on power chairs.

It’s a Merritts vision sport

According to our friends at Spinlife, with new batteries, your chair should have about 18 miles per day of range. That should be more than enough for a standard Disney day, unless you decide to head down to Disney Springs and run up and down every ramp in every parking garage! 😉

Just charge it fully overnight, every night, and I will bet you all the Mickey Bars you can eat that it will be fine! 🙂
