places to download camcorder movies to disc (no memory card)

We have just bought a new camcorder for Disney and it holds 10 hours of video to the memory(no card) but we always take more hours than that. We do not have a laptop to download our movies( and clear up some space to record more) to and I was wondering if anywhere in the disney area or in Disney itself you can bring your camcorder to plug in and load your movies to a disc. do any of the disney photo places do this? or any place nearby ..as we have a car and can travel to unload our movies.

I've seen the card readers at the photo centers but I've never noticed anything for a USB connection to download videos. Laptop computers aren't very expensive now a days, probably less then your camcorder, perhaps you could buy one of the small netbooks for $250 and download to that? How do you save videos now? Do you have a desktop at home, then burn them to DVD?

WE may try to load to my sisters laptop and email ourselves the file (She doesnt want ot use up the space on her laptop for our video) but i am nervous something may go wrong in the sending and we will lose our movies.

If the videos are small enough to email they are not going to use up that much space on your Sister's hard drive. Even if it did, its only temporary until you can off load it from the laptop onto something else.

Can she burn CD or DVDs from the laptop? Also portable hard drives are cheap per GB. You could transfer the video though her laptop to the hard drive.

One thing about emailing them to yourself. Most email systems have a limit of 10 mb per attachment. I have a feeling that your video files are going to be larger than that. Also you will need internet access to use email. If you have to pay for access it would be cheaper to just buy the hard drive.

Some video cameras, notably the Flip, need a full fledged laptop (or desktop PC) to unload the video. After that, or sometimes simultaneously if there are enough connectors, the video will go onto an external hard drive if you wish.

I didn't refer to that kind of hard drive in my post, but I did do quick search to see if they were still around and had trouble finding one.

Even when they were around I don't think you could just plug a usb cable into it. It only worked with memory cards.

You won't be able to email any video files of quality, they are just to large. Two possibilities if your sister laptop is available.

Download the files to the laptop then upload (need internet) to a offsite storage place like Carbonite, then download when you get home.

Easiest would be to buy an external drive (you can get about 500gig for $100) and hook it up to your sister's laptop. When dragging the files over from the camcorder drag them to the external drive instead of your sister's hardrive. Disconect the hardrive, take it home with you and reload when you get home.

Years ago I looked for places to download my camera memory to disk and the costs each day when added up were more then the drives are costing today.

thanks for the tips so far. we are still not sure whatwe are doing. My sisters laptop cannot burn dvds and we now understand they cannot be emailed either. I am sure we will figure it out, still hoping for a usb port somewhere to load and burn to dvd.(maybe walmart or something) The external harddrive is the other option but just spent so much money on the new camcorder then a5 hour battery and then a memory card for snapshots...uuugh
