Placeholder cruise question

We are going on our first cruise in September. There are four of us dh, ds, ds, and myself. We already know that we will definitely cruise again within the next 24 months of our September cruise but aren't sure which cruise we will be on which is why we will just do a placeholder deposit. We are considering taking our nephew, who has never sailed before, with us on our placeholder cruise. My question is if we do take our nephew with us how will that affect the obb? Will we still be able to get the discount? Do we just pay normal price for him and the rest of us get the discount? Can you even add an extra person to the room when you book a placeholder? Sorry for so many questions. I just want to make sure it's even possible and see how it works. TIA!

Any one person on a cruise can book a cruise on the placeholder terms for any person who will cruise and they do not need to be on that cruise. As long as they all can fit in a stateroom I think it's max two staterooms that can be booked. Placeholders cost $200 pp so worth booking nephew on.

When using a placeholder your cruise fare is determined at the moment you convert it to the actual cruise. At that moment you will receive OBB benefits for the people you book up to the maximum of your stateroom. If you expect more people to travel with you, purchase 2 placeholders (maximum is 2 per household).

Now if you book your family first and later add your nephew (or any other person), he will also receive the 10% discount, but based on the rate of the day he is added. You also have the risk of lifeboat and kids club capacity running out, so book his place as soon your are pretty certain he will sail. Up to the PIF-date any name can be dropped from the reservation at no charge (except concierge/suites), however to maintain OBB benefits at least one adult from the original OBB booking must remain. I'm not sure how this works with paceholders and names (will find out on our next cruise), so be safe and ask when booking.

I didn't think the "placeholder" itself has any limitations to number of passengers (other than all within one stateroom), and the deposit is a flat $200 regardless. If you think you may need/want to spread out into 2 staterooms, you'll need to book 2 placeholders. The actual "value" including deposit requirements, discounted fare and OBB given will be determined once you move the placeholder to a "real" cruise date. At that time you'll want to make sure you add all possible passengers (up to available room capacity) or risk higher fare to add someone later.

Enjoy your cruises!

Thank you guys! Since there will be a maximum of 5 of us if our nephew ends up going I will just get one placeholder since we would all fit. The three boys would be 7,6,3 so it's not like we would be trying to cram 5 adults into one room. Then when we decide which cruise we are going on, I will know around then if my nephew will be able to join us and will add him at that point. Thank you again!

You get a 10% discount on cruise fare.

$100 obc for cruises 6 nights or less or $200 obc for 7+nights

Reduced deposit on 7+ night cruises

Thanks, we sail on the 17th August on the Dream. I plan to check out the options for next years cruise. Really like to do 7 nights on the Fantasy.

If you book on board, do you pay in dollars or the currency of the country in which you reside?

newbie question.. what is obc

Obc- on board credit
Obb- on board booking

Onboard credit (OBC) is an amount placed into your onboard account, usually as a "thank you" from your TA or a DCL offer (such as OBB or using your Disney Visa). It can be used towards any additional charges incurred during the cruise -- such as tips/gratuities, souvenirs, adult dining, spa, excursions, etc.

Enjoy your cruise!
