Hi! We will be staying at BCV in a 1bdrm in October using points. I keep hearing about people being surprised with a room upgrade at different resort so I am wondering if that ever happens at the villas?....

Never, there isn't any benefit to Disney in upgrading a DVC point user.

You got your pixie dust already if you are not a BVC owner and got a villa there in October. It's very difficult, and books fast. They really don't upgrade...ever.

Not when staying on points. DVC is a timeshare. Upgrades are only done as a last resort, for example if the villa to which you were assigned is taken out of service for maintenance. Even then, an upgrade is not a given. After we checked in to VWL last fall for a 3 night stay in a studio, I got a call on my cell phone about 15 minutes later from the front desk, telling me our assigned unit was taken out of service and we had to return to get new keys. Still didn't get upgraded. We were assigned another studio.
