Just read about the new play area. Photos look like this may be in the arcade? OH NO!!!! I realize it is only in the evenings but this would be a huge disappointment to my kids. (Too old to use the new play area). Anyone know where it is please let me know. Thanks!!

OH nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are upset about this too. We are staying at CR this summer and my kids loved that arcade. We have not told them yet...but we have a split stay with BC, which still has a pretty good arcade, so we will just wait for that one.

I think this was a misguided decision by Disney. Taking away a space that was usable for the entire day to replace it with something that has a limited age range and operating hours just smacks of cost cutting. Considering they recently announced they would be closing all their child care centers at the end of July makes this even weirder.

Completely agree. Heard they are trying to replicate the Kids Club areas like they have on the cruise ship. But what makes the area in the cruise ship work is because it is a contained area. This is WDW - people go from place to place to place because there is SO much to do and the arcade was one of those places to spend a bit of time at any time of the day.

I did hear this is a trial and that this event uses the arcade so I am hoping they do not get a good turnout and can covert it back! We are DVC with BLT as our home property but also enjoy staying at BW so looks like we will need to be using that option (or BC) as well.

I agree. I was hoping to pop over there from Poly for my 9yo. He likes the normalcy of playing a few video games for some down time while at Disney lol.
He will be disappointing. He would probably skip a park day to play in the arcade!!

What makes the kids clubs on the ship work is also that they are included in the price of the cruise. I'd be ALL over this if it was open all day for drop in time, and it was free to Contemporary guests. That would be a great thing to offer. Aulani does this...WDW should as well.

Not sure how it's cost cutting. Revenue generating for sure but you can't run something for much cheaper than an arcade. For what it's worth my daughter loved her night there. Even better than her stay last year at Lilo's Playhouse.

I am sure the new event is great because everything Disney does is top notch. However for those of us with kids in the tween age the arcade was a lot of fun. Since the Pixar event really is for the younger ones (doubt ages 10 and older would find it appealing) I just wish they found another space for it.

They took away an amenity and didn't add another one of equal value to guests. They COULD have created s new space for this kid's club and left the arcade intact. It was obviously cheaper to convert the arcade. That's where the cost cutting came in. Arcades are not that cheap...those games break and replacements are expensive. Plus, they use a lot of electricity.

Last trip 12 yo daughter and I hit about 12 of the arcades. The Contemporary's was by far the best. :(

We are BLT owners so always stay there but do venture to BW and BC at times and have been to the arcades there. What other arcades do you recommend? Any help appreciated! Thanks.

The one at Art of Animation and Pop Century is pretty good.

We used the arcade at CR last year. It was a great break from Magic Kingdom in the afternoon. It was hot! My kids and brother in law played games, my DH and sister in law used the massage chairs, my niece napped in her stroller, and I found a plug to recharge my phone. I'm a bit bummed too. My kids are too old for the new thing. The arcade really made a good, cool, down-time spot for all ages!

NO!!!!!!!
The arcade was the main reason my kids love the contemporary... and why I shelled out $$$$ last year to reserve a week there next month!!! They are going to be so disappointed!!!

That’s probably the breaking point for us!!!!

You make some really amazing points about the cruise ship...it's so true. If I want to have dinner with my hubby at one hotel, I have to travel all the way to CT for childcare? Foolish decision for sure.

You should call them to complain about that's WHY you booked THAT hotel.

Switch to the beach club. Once you stay there you'll never look back :)

We will be... we rented dvc points and made all our plans around being here so too late to change everything.

I broke the news to the kids today so they will be prepared and they were so upset. They had a few choice words they said they plan to tell the hotel... they asked to switch to Polynesian now but I explained it’s too late.

It does put a big wrench in our plans though bc I will be venturing off site with my youngest and her BFF and now will have to arrange alternatives for my boys. FYI they (10 & 8) are not into attending a daycare and I am not into paying $65/kid for them to do so either.

On their Disney cruise which was 3 years ago (so more the kids club ages for them)- they only went in the Kids club once to see it and left.

Poor decision contemporary!!!

Between this, TSMM being down for FP, friendship boats being down (hugely affects our dinner plans at parks), and the reports I've been reading about poor staffing and forced wait times- I am expecting less than ever. I have said it’s our last trip but now the boys are saying it too. :(
