As Disney Parks Chairman Bob Chapek announced at the D23 Expo in August, Disneyland Resort guests are invited to celebrate their favorite Disney·Pixar stories during Pixar Fest. Beginning April 13, 2018, this limited-time celebration of friendship and beyond will feature the debut of an all-new fireworks spectacular and the return of two favorite parades as well as even more beloved Pixar characters, new décor, atmosphere entertainment, themed food and beverage and new merchandise items.

“Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” will light up Disneyland park beginning April 13. In addition to dazzling pyrotechnics and memorable music, the theme of friendship, ever-present in most Pixar films, is celebrated in this nighttime spectacular. Guests are invited to embark on an emotional journey that starts when unlikely Pixar characters first meet. As they set out on adventures and overcome obstacles together, “Together Forever” celebrates the everlasting friendships forged by beloved Pixar pals. The story comes to life through projections on iconic park locations: Sleeping Beauty Castle, the water screens of the Rivers of America, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A. This nighttime spectacular will even feature a special flyover by Buzz Lightyear at Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Also on April 13, the popular “Paint the Night” parade will return, this time to Disney California Adventurepark. The parade features many Pixar stories, including characters from “Toy Story,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Cars,” and another Pixar story will join “Paint the Night” parade later in the year.

With the launch of Pixar Fest, “Pixar Play Parade” will make its way through Disneyland park for the first time. The parade will begin as most Pixar films have, with an appearance by the iconic and adorable Pixar lamp. Other new parade elements will feature characters from “UP” and “Inside Out.”

The Pixar Shorts film festival will feature rotating favorites such as “For the Birds” and “Lava” at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure park throughout most of Pixar Fest. The Paradise Gardens area will feature a new Pixar-themed musical troupe along with Pixar character greeting opportunities as well as crafts and activities for our younger guests.

Guests can get into character and celebrate friendship with a host of new merchandise, including an exclusive Pixar Fest charm bracelet. With multiple bracelet options and a variety of charms with fun friendship messages and favorite Pixar characters, guests can mix and match for themselves, or friends and family!

All of these exciting new experiences come in addition to the many attractions and entertainment throughout the Disneyland Resort that include your favorite Pixar characters. Join the celebration when Pixar Fest begins April 13, 2018!

Some things I'm interested to see:
-How they upgrade Pixar Play Parade, if at all. The press release says there will be Pixar lamp leading it, as well as new units from Inside Out and Up (though I expect that the Inside Out will be the same as that pre-show they did at DCA last year).
-What new Pixar float is included in Paint the Night. It seems if Inside Out and Up go to the PPP, there should be something different for PtN (even though I know they will both have Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Cars, and Monsters). Maybe Brave or Wall-E? I think the lights for Wall-E could really work well together!
-Pixar short film festival. Seems a nice A/C break!

I’ve heard rumors that the new float might be Big Hero 6.

Oh boy I'm hoping this means the renos will be done to CS by then! I haven't booked yet because of the lack of information. Fingers crossed

I would like to know how long it is supposed to last. We are going beginning of March with the possibility of a November trip but that isn't nearly so solid.

Does this likely mean that California Screamin' will be finished with it's overlay by April 13th?

Not necessarily. It could be that Pixar Fest begins April 13, but that the new Pixar Pier doesn't open until Memorial Day weekend in time for the summer kick-off. But maybe it will all open at once. Supposedly they are adding a spinning ride inside the helix of the coaster along with the Dash retheming. And they are building some kind of theater on the other end. That could take a while.

Where did everyone hear that Pixar Pier is an overlay? The announcement at D23 definitely implied that it's a permanent change. The concept art also showed that the Fun Wheel will be redesigned with Luxo Jr. and the Pixar ball replacing the Mickey face.

The artist rendering of the new fireworks is pretty impressive. I also took this quote from dear old Erin at the Blog.
"The story comes to life through projections on iconic park locations: Sleeping Beauty Castle, the water screens of the Rivers of America, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A."
If that is the case it seems like you need to see the show from several different locations. Interesting.

Is anyone else really sad that the wheel will no longer have Mickey's face on it? My son absolutely adores the big mickey wheel.

Where did you see Screamin was going down?

I would like to know this and if so when. This is my favorite ride at DCA.

Over the summer Disney made an announcement at D23 and then on the parks blog about "Pixar Pier" coming to DCA in 2018. Since then it has been rumored that California' Screamin' would get an Incredibles makeover, that an additional ride would be added to the pier, and some other changes will come by this summer. MiceAge and some other theme park sites have been running with these rumors. I don't know if Disney has officially said anything about what this Pixar Pier makeover will entail aside from the original blog post in July and now this Pixar Fest announcement. If the re-theme for California Screamin' turns out to be true and/or construction of a new spinning ride in the vicinity of California Screamin' begins, then Screamin' would go down for a significant chunk of time after the first of the year for construction and/or retheming.

Since we are traveling BEFORE this opens, I'm wondering how much will be shut down for my birthday trip the last week of March 2018. I love CA park almost as much as the original DL and am hoping to spend many hours there including a WOC dessert package.

In this case "overlay" doesn't have to mean temporary. It simply means that the new themeing is going over the current themeing. Like people referring to the overlay to TOT when it was rethemed to Guardian's. In that case it was permanent too and they didn't just change the theme but enhanced the ride. Still people used the term. If Screamin' does get a Dash theme it is just a new theme, not a ride change. Pixar Pier is supposed to be a permanent new theme to the Pier.
