Hello, Pittsburghers! We have tickets for The Lion King at the Benedum on Friday, Sept 13. Can you recommend a good restaurant within walking distance? We plan to park in the nearby garage, already have a parking voucher. We have DD7 and DD9, who are not picky eaters, but don't do overly spicy. We would like something nice, moderately priced or cheaper.

Thanks so much.

Taste of Dahntahn is pretty good and only a block or 2 away. Market Square is within walking distance and has a nice, semi-fancy Italian restaurant called Il Pizziaolo and of course there's the Pittsburgh staple Primanti Bros. You should be able to look up menus online and decide what your family would be interested in. Let me know if you have any questions and enjoy the show and city!

Thanks for the reply! I will look at those you mentioned. Also, I wasn't sure if Market Square was walking distance. Thanks so much for the info. Very helpful.

Olive or Twist on 6th; Nola in Market Square; Grille on Seventh

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look at them. We love Pittsburgh!!! So, I will keep a list and what we don't try this time, we will try on another trip.

The next time you're doing a show, park in the Mellon 1 parking garage and dine at The Carlton. They have a free limo that will take you to & pick you up at either the Benedum or Heinz Hall. The Carlton has always been excellent!

Olive and twist is definetly close to the theatre. DH and I were just there for his birthday.
While its a cute martini place, its obvious food is not their specialty. Plus to me it seemed more like an adult atmosphere. We were there on a Sunday evening and have been there on early Saturday evenings, may be the time we are there but it just seemed more adult happy hour than Lion King dinner with the kiddos..

The grille on seventh is just plain awful since it changed owners. Long waits and mediocre food. Our go to restaurant just closed its doors this past summer , Tambellini's.

I wish there were more kid friendly places in the vicinity, unfortunately there arent.
I would check out market square.

My friends and I always eat at August Herny's on Penn Ave when we see a show downtown. It's become a tradition.

I really love the French Dip Sandwich.

Meat & Potatoes (yes, that's the name) is nice. There is also Six Penn Kitchen with a nice upstairs, outdoor deck. I also recommend August Henry's. Olive Or Twist has more of a bar feel to it.

I actually ate at Il Pizzaiolo last night (the original in Mt Lebanon) and it's good. Little pricey I though. Pizza's are specialty and two people could split.

Take a look at Winghart's Burgers as well.

Thanks for all the info. I will look into your suggestions. Will definitely keep The Carlton in mind for the next time.

Thank you, Pittsburgh!

It's been a long time but the Carlton is very expensive, I used to work in that building. I haven't eaten downtown in a long time so can't offer other suggestions, it seems that restaurants are always changing.

I second August Henry. We tried it the last time we were in town for a show and we would go back.

If you're looking for Italian, you can try Palazzo Ristorante on 6th St which across from Heinz Hall.

Both places are a bit small, but you can make reservations and both are child friendly.

Thanks for the additional info. I think we are going with August Henry's. We looked at the menu and it looks like everyone will find something they will enjoy. Good to know they have a kid's menu, too. I will make ressies. On their map, it looks like a long walk, but I guess it really isn't. We will need some walking after the car ride and before the show anyway.

Thanks again! I can always count on the dis.
