Can anyone give me advice on the Radisson Green Tree hotel or the Spring Hill Suites Airport hotel? Our hockey team has to choose between the two for a tournament and I'd like to make the best choice. We will be playing at the Ice Castle arena on Castle Shannon Blvd.

Thanks!!!

Damo,

I am not sure what specific things you are concerned with regarding accomodations, but we go on tourney weekends with soccer, so I am giving advice with that in mind.

If the SHS is at greater pitt international airport...as far as convenience, the Greentree Radisson is going to be a WAY easier commute. If the SHS is the one at the county airport (west mifflin), that would be my choice as it is the closest to Ice Castles. It also is right by a Walmart, Target, a few major grocery stores, a mall, movie theaters....restaurants etc..

The Greentree Radisson will also be pretty convenient with shopping, food and groceries (if needed). The commute:

from the GPitI airport is going to take at least 45 minutes,

from the Greentee Radisson, I will guess about 25 minutes

from the county airport (west mifflin)...it would be about 15-20 minutes (and possibly less), IMO.

I keep mentioning the west mifflin hotel because it is not really far from my area (about 5-10 min) and I drive by it constantly, LOL.. It is a fairly new hotel and has an indoor pool and I think a hot tub (in the suites..i think). The suites are supposed to be pretty nice. You could also go back to the hotel if you have time between games. With the GPitI airport location, you really would be foolish to do so unless you have large blocks of time to kill (and you will deal with MUCH more traffic, even on the weekends).

Bottom line... I would go with SHS (only if in west mifflin) or Radisson Greentree.

btw, Ice Castles is a very nice, NEW complex...(I hear from the kids)

let me know if you have any further questions.

The Spring Hill Suites that we can go to is on Summit Park Drive, not the one in West Mifflin. It includes breakfast.

I really just want to know if the hotel is in a nice area and is it run down. We will be driving down from Ontario along Interstate 79. We are going to be going to Penguins game while we are there.

I've heard that the Spring Hill on Summit Park, I guess it's near the other airport, can have traffic problems since it is in a busy shopping area but it looks like a much nice hotel than the Radisson Greentree.

Both hotels are offered for less on the internet than the hockey tournament is making us pay ($89/night) which is annoying, but in order to play at the tournament we have to stay at one of the two designated hotels. We just want to get the best value for the dollar.

Damo,
you are probably better off with the Spring Hill Suites. I am pretty sure the Radisson is a much older hotel. I think with your plans to go to a Penguins game, it will be more convenient for travel also. Here is a 'customer review' of the SHS: I hope it helps.

I hope you guys all have a great time while you visit!!! Let me know if you have any more questions regarding the area!!
