I have this all the time. Some days worse than others. Sitting right now is killing me. Not sure what type of doctor to see about it to get some relief. Have seen orthopedic doctor but they don't seem to have a good answer.

My pitiformus on both sides is always painful. The only things that help is a lot of stretching (both just myself and going to stretch lab for assisted stretching), Pilates, deep painful massage with an electric massager and rolling around on a tennis ball on the spot. Hurts like hell but helps for awhile. I keep as active as possible to stay limber.

My PT does a lot of massage, I have tight muscles all through the glute region plus some weird muscle knots in my back. Really helps a lot.

(I find lacrosse balls are better than tennis balls for self massage)

You can also Google some PT exercises for specific problems you are having. I started seeing a PT but the. Realized most of the exercises they were having me do are online and easy accessible so now I do them at home. Strengthening the problem area usually eases symptoms. Good luck!

You need Physical Therapy. This is a muscular imbalance issue. You need to strengthening exercises, deep massage, and likely TENS unit therapy.
