I have been trying other gaming sites for a month now and still haven't found anything I like. :sad2:

Now that vmk is offering this free trial I'm just wondering what is the difference between pirates and toontown? Which one has more park references/ disney magic? Can someone explain it a little bit more than just that one is about pirates and one is about toontown fighting robots? Do you get rooms, clothing, stuff?

I've never played Toon, but from what I know it is probably more what you're looking for. I was a beta tester for Pirates and LOVE it. The graphics are more life-like. You do quests to earn gold. Quests include "killing" Navy and ETOC solders, skeletons, various animals (alligators, wasps, scorpions, crabs) with one of 7 weapons. You have 10 or so islands to sail to and on the way you can sink other's ships. It is sort of like playing in the Pirates movie.

So, if you want something more along the lines of VMK I think Toon is the way to go, but give Pirates a try to see what you think.

Neither Littlebelle tried toontown for one hour and was totally frustrated I have enough left right directional issues that just being able to move by arrows was way to frustrating. Never liked pirates have no need to be violent so nothing for me thanks Disney for looking out for all us non-gaming people. You left us nothing.

We've got some Toontown junkies in this house - Toontown is sort of like living in Mickey's Toontown, or like being in the middle of Who Framed Roger Rabbit - you get a house, can buy furniture, clothes, own a pet that you can teach tricks to, etc. You can make friends and invite them to your house, using a set list of chat phrases. You can also have "real friends" that you know in real life, who you can chat in real time with. You can plant a garden, go fishing, play mini-golf, as well as fight the corporate cogs who are trying to destroy the fun of Toontown. You do tasks, which result in an increase in "laugh points" - which makes you harder to defeat, and lets you do additional, harder tasks.

It is not much like VMK, in that it isn't set in the magic kingdom, but its fun, and I personally get a kick out of the idea that the "bad guys" in Toontown are big corporate business types who are out to destroy the "magic" of toontown - whoever the game developers were, they are having a laugh at their corporate selves, I think!

If you have good friends that you are meeting up with in VMK today, maybe you could ask them all to join Toontown, pick their same username so you can identify each other, and arrange to all meet in the same district, at a set time and place, so you can all add each other to your friends list in this game, too?

I hope if you try it that you enjoy playing Toontown almost as much as VMK.

PotCO is going to have an occasional reference to the ride that inspired the movies. You will probably find that Toontown is stylistically similar to Mickey's Toontown Fair. That's probably because they both draw inspiration from the old Mickey and pals cartoon shorts. As far as park references go, that's probably about it. Neither are going to mimic park features the way VMK did.

Disney Magic? I think that's going to be interpreted differently for different people. Disney has a long traditon with pirates (Jack Sparrow, the PotC ride, Peter Pan, Treasure Island, Treasure Planet, Blackbeard's Ghost, Swiss Family Robinson, etc.). In that respect, I think PotCO captures a certain type of Disney magic very well.

Someone else may like Toontown because it reminds them of Mickey and his friends. It may seem very "Disney" to them. To me, the story and the slapstick nature of it all reminded me more of Looney Toons. I played it for a few days and just couldn't get into it. I will try it again when I get my 30-day code.

We won't be joining either POTCO or Penguins. Neither is a sufficient substitute for VMK for our entire family. My husband (Dr-Jones on VMK) feels like we'd be playing right into Disney's hands by joining. They have pushed these two (fairies as well) so much and hope to have the revenue that vmk fans would generate by joining - not happening here.

We're going to try out VFK - maybe a few others. All the while keeping our fingers crossed that Disney reconginzes the error of it's way and that a miraculous reopening of VMK happens (not likely, I -know :( ).

I just made my fairy. I'm Emerald Eveningdew. I live at 222 Sleepy Maple Wood. Apparently, there is no such thing as boy fairies in Pixie Hollow. On a positive note... OMG, this skirt is soooo ADORABLE!!! :lmao:

Pirates is very violent in comparison to Toon.
I do not understand the point in the Faries, they do not do anything.

Our family will not be playing any other Disney games. If they open VKM then I will go back to that, but I have no interest in their other games.

So true :sad1:

I don't think Fairies is live yet as a game. For now it is a collection of mini-games and the ability to make your personal fairy. I have my fairy and decorated her room last night. Can't do anything with the furniture creatively but I am reserving judgement until the game goes live and I can see what the game system entails.

I've been playing Toontown several weeks. Totally different from VMK so it is not an apples to apples comparison. It is fairer to judge it against other video games rather than an immersive community. With that in mind, I'm enjoying it as just a fun game to play. I do like being able to garden and play golf but it is not an "instead of VMK" kind of game. More of an "another game to play".

My hope remains that as the Disney Internet Group develops (remember, the Mouse came to the internet gaming community pretty late), they may decide to create an updated version of VMK. It makes sense to start out with narrow focussed games in that regard to determine what works and what doesn't.

I played Pirates in the beta phase. It was okay as an adventure game but fell a little short as a role playing game for me. Part of my trouble is that the artwork is a little sub-par and very dark and murky. In keeping with the Pirate movies but a bit drab for someone used to the jewel-bright colors of VMK.

UPDATE: There is a new feature on the Fairies website: "Coming Soon: Fly Your Fairy into the Virtual World of Pixie Hollow!" Looks as if they plan to go live soon.

The artwork in Fairies looks far more promising so I'm hoping that may still deliver a cool game. Too soon to tell.

I Play Toontown and Pirates online and think their both quite fun.

I really just hope too see some VMK friends on there but haven't met any yet. :(
