Pirates on the Dining Plan!! A week of Disney dining! (with lots of pics!)

Thanks for the great reviews & pics. :) Do you know if the Valrhona chocolate cake and raspberry ice cream is always on the menu? The recent negative reviews for CG's food & atmosphere have me considering booking a different restaurant. (We try to stay away from the louder, more choatic restaurants.) That dessert looks amazing though. I love the combination of chocolate w/ raspberry. That alone may convince me to keep our CG ADR.

Karin, you naughty girl, you snuck back in while I wasn't looking :rotfl: I just got all caught up and really loved the last couple of reviews - Yak and Yeti sounded quite good but, sadly, nothing they offer still really appeals to me. California Grill looked and sounded fantastic - I love raspberry flavour (although I don't like raspberries - who, me, weird - never :rotfl2: ) so that ice cream sounds like heaven on a plate. And, from one WPE lover to another, I am so getting myself there for breakfast. I actually really like the sound of the cronflake french toast so may have to have that - and don't even get me started on Ghirardelli's luscious sundaes :worship:

Also, before I forget, I must commend you on your English - it really is fantastic, in fact your spelling and grammar are probably much better than most English people I know ;)

Please tell me it's not all over yet :guilty:

I am new to the boards and I must say this was BY FAR the most informative and well put together review I have ever seen, thank you for the pictures as well, its amazing how my reservations may change after sseing all this.. LOL Amazing LOVE IT

I'm all caught up!!! Awesome reviews!

I never would have thought to go to WPE for breakfast - now i'm going to have to try it for sure.

just caught up! fab piccies. love the ice-creams and dessert at CG. :lovestruc

All caught up!! You really have some great pics of not only the food but of the parks and such!! by the way love cali grill, definitely mine and my DF's favorite place to eat!! Can't wait for more!!!:yay:

Wow I just loved your review ::yes::! It kills me, you made all the very best choices when it comes to dining! Practically all my favorites :goodvibes. On top of that, we flew Lufthansa on our last trip this past December and I'm so jealous (but happy for you) that you got bumped to buisness class. Way to go :thumbsup2!

Another delicious review! :worship: I might even have to try that ostrich dish next time!

CG = :thumbsup2 We never had a bad meal there and they change their menus so often and come up with truely amazing dishes!

Your CG pictures have me drooling! Especially the flatbread and the dessert. I love dark chocolate and raspberry together! :lovestruc

You got some great photos of AI, Boardwalk and the fireworks! :thumbsup2

Chocolate and raspberry -:cloud9: We LOVE their flatbreads, even if they sound adventurous ;) and their desserts are so good and creative! :thumbsup2

The Valrhona chocolate cake has always been on the menu - the ice cream changes. We had caramel, coffee and apricot before - it is ALWAYS a wonderful combination!
If you want it to be more quiet make a reservation for AFTER the fireworks. You will be able to be there early and watch the fireworks, but after the fireworks MANY families with kids leave, so it gets much more quiet! We go there every trip (sometimes twice) and only once have experienced it to be loud and that was just before the fireworks.

Thank you! I am glad I picked YOUR favourites to dine at - most of them are our favourites too! ;)
As for Lufthansa - the flight home was much less exciting than the trip to WDW! I wish I could afford business class, but then Mickey gets all my money! :thumbsup2

Boardwalk Bakery, Starring Rolls Cafe, Min and Bill's Dockside Diner, Flame Tree Barbeque

Our trip was coming to an end. This was our second to last day at Walt Disney World for this trip and there was still so much left we wanted to try.

We had breakfast in our room. Tom was making more coffee - double load coffee to make it at least a bit drinkable, we had some diet coke and Tom had some corn chips with it for breakfast while I had my "birthday cake". Tom had insisted that since this was my birthday trip I needed a birthday cake. Thankfully we were towards the end of the trip, so we could not order a custom made one, but I had always wanted to try the Boardwalk bakery.

So here is my "birthday treat" - a small Mickey cake! I had seen so many photos of it, but when we were at the Boardwalk the day before we picked it up and I decided it was my birthday cake.
I was actually expecting it to be stale, since it had been sitting in its little container overnight, but on the contrary - it was moist and delicious. It had coloured sprinkled inside and was really good! What a nice way to start the day.

Actually we had wanted to be at Disney's Hollywood Studios for ropedrop to get on Toy Story Mania before midday because we wanted to have lunch at Animal Kingdom. Unfortunately the beds were too comfy and we got up a little late and did not make it there. Fastpass for TSM were past midday and the line was 90 minutes, so that was out of the question. Rock'n'Rollercoaster was down! Again! So we picked up a FP for ToT and got in line. It said 50 minutes, and it WAS 50 minutes. There was lots of time for photos while in line.

After the ride we wanted to try one of the pretzels they sell at Min and Bill's Dockside Diner. They did not say snack credit on the menu board at the line area, but they did say snack credit behind the counter, even though they were 4.29 before tax.
I got in line and when I reached the front they were sold out on the ones we wanted.

So we decided to check out the Starring Rolls Bakery.

IMG_0922.jpg

We had some Diet Coke and shared a Turkey Focaccia with chips. It was quite a sandwich! And very tasty too!

There was still time before the ToT FP, so we tried the Pretzels again - no luck now either.

Since I didn't have any popcorn yet, this is what we got - we still had quite a few snack credits to use up!

IMG_0928.jpg

After we had finished it we went over to ToT and used our FP. By then it was about time to leave the park, but not without one more try of buying a Pretzel. Yip, this time we were in luck!!

IMG_0930.jpg

A Spicy Cheese Stuffed Pretzel - my FIRST american pretzel!!! And it was all it was called. It was stuffed with cream cheese and it was spicy. And it was GOOD! And it was a snack credit!!
Mickey heard cheese and there he was!

IMG_0932.jpg

It was hard holding him back! ;) :rotfl2:

After that we drove over to Animal Kingdom to have lunch at Flame Tree Barbeque. We got lucky and scored a parking space right near the tram stop and within no time we were inside the park.
We had a few more Photopass Photos taken and then headed for Flame Tree Barbeque. There was NO line whatsoever.

IMG_0935.jpg

I had the Pork Sandwich served with cole slaw, instead of the baked beans it usually comes with.
The pork was nice and moist and it was just a wonderful treat. Food is always so good at FTB.

IMG_0937.jpg

Tom ordered the 1/2 Slab of St. Louis Ribs served with baked beans and corn muffin. We shared both orders! The ribs were wonderful, most and juicy and lots of meat. I do not care for the corn muffin too much, but that is maybe just me. I think it is too sweet to go with the meat.
Same goes for the baked beans. They are too sweet for my taste.

IMG_0938.jpg

We had picked a side of Onion Rings and paid out of pocket for it. I had read a lot about them here on the boards and we thought we better give them a try. Well, the verdict was - we are definitely going to get some more next time we go to FTB. They were GOOD. Crisp and nicely thin onion inside. VERY yummy!

After we had finished our main courses, we went and got other seats. We had made a huge mistake. This was the only COOL day we had and we had picked a spot in the shade. Not only did our meal get cold quickly, we got cold with it as well.
So we disposed our dirty dishes and went to find a sunnier spot to have our desserts at.
And we found a wonderful spot, right next to the pond with the many waterlilies in it.

IMG_0940.jpg

I had my favourite again! Key Lime Pie, it tasted really nice. Not too tart and not too sweet. Love it!

IMG_0943.jpg

Tom had the Chocolate Cake. It was SWEET, but nice. It's just too sweet to eat a whole portion. The green stuff on top, even though it looked odd, tasted quite nice too. I LOVED the sprinkles!!!

So that concludes part 1 of that day!

DDP:
Boardwalk Bakery: $ 4,30
Starring Rolls = OOP
Popcorn: $ 3,30
Min and Bill's: $ 4,60
Flame Tree: $ 32,00
Paid for DDP $ 560
Left $ 19,60 - $ 4,30 - $ 3,30 - $ 4,60 - $ 32 = $ 24,60

Next up: Royal Anandapur Tea Company, Mara and Olivia's

I want, no I NEED to get me that Mickey Cake in October...should be easy since we are staying right at the BWI.

I wish I had those onion rings right now!

That Mickey cake is soo cute! I thought it was going to be more than that! I think that will be my bday treat in July!

Cute little Mickey cake! We rarely get to the Boardwalk, but it looks like it might have to be a stop one day. Was it chocolate on the inside as well?

And I just went over to your website and found out we are going to be at the mouse house at the exact same time in September. Are you doing the Halloween party?

GO, GET that Mickey cake - it was really yummy! Lucky you staying at the BWI!! :)

We actually got it for a snack credit. It is a personal sized cake, but we want to get the larger size one when we go in September! :cloud9:

The inside of the cake is yellow (sponge?) cake with sprinkles, so it was "several colours" inside :).

Hey, it's great we'll be at the House of Mouse at the same time. Sure, we are doing the Halloween parties! I am planning on the one on the 4th AND the one on the 11th!! I guess there is a chance of bumping into you then?? :goodvibes

How funny! That was our plan too. I think we might definitely bump into you there.

And thank god for the cake not being chocolate...I think I am one of the few people in the entire world who won't eat any chocolate cake unless it is German chocolate.

GREAT!!! I'll see you at the party then!!

And you are so right, American chocolate cake is definitely VERY different from the European variety. You should come to Austria and do some "sightEATING, our cakes are SO yummy!!! :cloud9:

I'm not a huge fan of the Flame Tree (don't eat much meat, and don't love barbecue), but I might go there just for those onion rings and some key lime pie!

Looking forward to hearing about your meal at Olivia's. I have had one breakfast and one dinner there, and enjoyed them both very much.
