We went to Disney in October and pirates was closed all day due to problems we go back in April and I check the Disney app often and see its closed down a lot anyone know what is going on with the ride I really want to ride it in April.

The pirates are just that much more rowdy since the refurb. Generally it is usually only down for a short time, or even a few hours. Using the My Disney Experience App will show when it comes back up so you can make it there.

Breathe, just breathe...

People here on the Dis have noted that the boats are taking on water (sometimes?) etc. My guess is that they need to bail out some boats, adjust the water level, dry stuff off, and then send a CM boat through to check.

I wonder if there's a water table issue going on though - they could lower the level of the water to keep it a bit less splashy, but if this is a recurring issue, I'm wondering if they are getting seepage into the attraction? Or maybe they just can't lower the level without the overloaded boats scraping bottom?

I surely hope not! Groundwater seepage into the attraction would not be a good thing.

Well, since the whole area is pretty swampy, and they did lots of soil-moving to create MK, I wouldn't be surprised if they had water coming in all over the place. How old is Pirates? Are the utilidors under the entire MK property, or just some areas?

Looking on a satellite image of central Florida, there are so many bodies of water all around and on WDW property. They have the canals, the pumping stations, and the lakes, so hopefully they have it under control, but it can't be that easy to keep all that water out of the MK. Lots of it is subterranean - I'm impressed that they haven't had sinkhole problems on property.

When you go down the hill on Pirates, you are actually over on the other side of the railroad tracks in a separate building. Keep in mind MK is actually above ground level.

To a point it is, with the utilidors holding up the structures above, but the outside edges - such as Pirates - are exposed to the gradient. I don't think Rivers of America has anything under it. There was a map out there once, but I can't find the one I was thinking of.
