I just read on Mousesavers that it is closed until June or July...is this true??? I have only been to Disney once as a kid and I loved this ride I will be very disappointed not to get to go on it!

I think they are updating it to add things from the movie. POC 2 is scheduled to be released around the same time the ride will open back up.

Yeah...it's true. PotC will be closed until July 7th (I think...) to update it. They're going to add an audio animatronic of Jack Sparrow and such.

yup it is true they are gonna try and make it look like the poc movie with orlando bloom and johnny depp in it!~! i am soooooo excited :thumbsup2

I highly doubt they will be adding anything from the movie to PotC - It's a Disney Classic, one of Walt's Babies. No matter how successful the movies were, I doubt they'll sully such a classic & beloved attraction with anything drastic.

More likely this is a technological & cosmetic update.

No, they are adding Capt Jack Sparrow, Capt Barbosa, and I think one other character. I heard this from a CM while taking the KTTK tour the day after they closed it down.

Actually they are adding an animatronic Jack Sparrow and lots of other things from the movie.

Next to Haunted Mansion, POTC is my other favorite ride. I don't know how it will be with them updating such a Disney staple, but I hope they do it with taste and class. I'm sure it will still be great, I just hope they don't modernize it too much :)

Ack! I did a little searching & I stand corrected. How disturbing tho.... I hope they don't go overboard in the drive to market the movie.

The movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" came out three years ago and was a surprise smash hit. Disney undoubtedly wants to capitalize on that success (a sequel will be out this year, and a third will follow), and the movie fans would really enjoy seeing Jack Sparrow and Barbosa on the long-running Disney POTC ride that the movie was (loosely) based upon. It seems to me that, rather than marketing the movie, they're updating this ride to market Disney World towards the movie-going fans who so love these characaters. If they were updating POTC to market the movie, they would have added those characters before the release of the first movie so that they'd be familiar to Disney World guests who are also filmgoers. As it is, I could tell while watching it which people in the audience had really been on POTC when Sparrow said something like "You can wave that bone all day long, that dog is never going to move." LOL! If you hadn't been on the ride, this line wasn't nearly as funny as if you'd been there, and if you've been on the ride a dozen times over the years, it's even funnier because the dog never does move. :rotfl2: People familiar with the movie who have never been on POTC will probably enjoy the ride even more with Sparrow and Barbosa added.

Unfortunately, I seem to run into classic rides being closed when I am in Disney. My last trip It's a Small World, one of my favs, was closed for refurbishment and now Pirates will be closed when I'm there in May. My only solution is to go again soon when it's open! :p

I hope the new POTC still has the classic music. My 3 year old daughter just loves the Pirates music. It was one of her favorite rides when we went last month. We hope to go back next year and I hope the old music is still there. Otherwise, she probably won't remember it or recognize it.
