I don't know about you, but I'm sick to death with films looking just like big-screen computer games. The Charlies Angles 2 teaser is a case in point: it spotlights an amazing unbelievable action sequence, quite impossible to do for real, obviously. And it looks awful, simply awful. McG, we know you can use a green screen, you can go back to music videos now. Pirates could have gone a similar route and use a lot of CGI, but these films need money shots to sell.
And, forgetting for a minute that it lost millions, Cuttthroat Island delivers something: you can see that $100 price tag up there 'on the screen'. It all makes for a delightfully guilty pleasure. Is it bad buisness sense for Disney to go the Cuttthroat route? Of course. But then again, I'm not putting up the cash and nor am I a stock holder, so I don't care
I think we can both agree that it is going to loose a truckload of money. When was the pirate genre last in vouge and making money? When Robert Newton was Blackbeard?!?
