Is the updated Pirates a smooth ride, or is there any bumpiness, jolts or drops? Thanks!

pirate: There has always been a small drop right after you see the skeleton pirate sailing the broken ship. I held onto my nephew - but it is nothing to hold on to someone for. The rest of the ride is pretty much the same excpet for Captain Jack Sparrow is popping up now and then. Hope you enjoy it!! pirate:

It's just that I have had back and neck pain. I'm wondering if it's a pretty good jolt or not - if I'd be comfortable or if it's jarring. Thanks!

Its not jarring.

Think log ride, that drops MAYBE 5 feet.

There is one part that could be a problem. And I don't remember if it happens on this ride or not. When you are at the end, waiting to get off. The boat behind you will bump you. It is not a real hard bump, but you do feel it. It happed for sure on Small World and the boat tour at Epcot in Norway.

do you mean it does a hard drop or do you mean it's like going down a slope with a smooth landing? :cool1:

the boats do jarringly bump u at the ending exit area of POC,its worse than the drop IMHO :Pinkbounc

the drop isnt a HARD drop, but its a drop so there is jarring, Its not smooooooooothhhhhhh :wave2:

I have always thought that the drop was pretty smooth (but I guess since I don't have back trouble I wouldn't have noticed it anyway). Along the lines of getting hit by other boats - I would say that it is a 50/50 chance. Sometimes all of the boats are backed up, but when we went in August, we just sailed smoothly through the water until the end. pirate:

I'll put my two cents worth in...my dd has the worse kind of spinal bifida they say you can have, she has no upper body control at all, we are very, very careful about every ride we take her on. This ride should be safe for you, the small drop runs pretty smooth, and towards the end of the ride if the ride starts piling up I can't comment because this has never happened to us on this ride. I say ride and enjoy ! :sunny:

I think it's probably quite smooth enough. I have lots of back problems & my husband has muscular dystrophy, it's never been a problem. I saw a video somewhere (can't remember) but the changes are just to the characters & scenes. Good Luck!

I have not been on Pirates since they renovated it, but from what I have read, the changes are cosmetic.
There is one drop (in the dark) near the beginning of the ride. It is pretty mild. There is a pretty big splash when the boat hits the bottom, but it really doesn't feel as hard as it sounds. Disney doesn't have any warnings on it for people with back problems.

Occassinally, your boat might get hit by another if they back up. The boats don't go very fast, so they don't hit with much force, but they can bump.
