Thought this deserved its own thread so those of us who are going in mid-to late October can all weep and wail together.

The DL calendar came up for October today. It lists the hours and the refurb schedule, although the parades and entertainment aren't up yet. I expect those will be up in August.

PotC shows as closed for refurb from Monday, Oct. 13th until the end of the month. November refurb list is not up yet; just the hours through the 23rd are up. So it's not known yet how long it will be down.

Color me disappointed. :headache: It's my favorite ride! Well, we get there at about 3 p.m. on Sunday the 12th, so I told DD13 that we are riding PotC that day no matter HOW LONG the wait is!

I wonder if it will affect waterside seating at Blue Bayou? That would not be good, either!

Hours are longer that week than they were last year, too. They must be expecting some fall break crowds. It's 8-11 on Monday, Columbus Day-- last year it was 9-11.

Sigh. I want my Pirates! pirate:

Now I'm glad I did change my dates. POTC is my favorite ride. I could ride it all day long.

This better be back up and running by the time we get there in November. This is a favorite. I'm disappointed IASW won't be running as it is. I could care less about the Sun wheel, but my boys love it.

wow...we just made the cut...we'll be there from 10/9 to 10/11...BUT Fantasmic is be closed for refurb :( i've never seen it yet and was hoping to see it...oh well....maybe next time.

Thank goodness we get there before the refurb ! It's bad enough that the Sun Wheel, Fantasmic, and IASW are all out of action while we're there.

I'm sorry it'll affect your trip - what a complete bummer :sad1:

Other notable closures:
Jungle Cruise from Oct 20-22
Gadget's Go Coaster from Oct 20-(Hopefully forever) ;)

That sucks. It is my DS9 fav ride and we will be there 10/31-11/2. I guess I should let him know in advance.

glad it is open the first day we are there we will ride it all day long because after that closed that sucks

Phew....we went in 2006 and it was closed because they were updating it right before the movie came out....we never had the joy of experiencing it and we were really looking forward to it in Oct....glad we are making the cutoff. That would really suck to miss out on POTC 2 trips in a row.:sad2:

One good thing about POTC's line is that no matter how ominous it looks, it always moves fast. They have found a way to speed up that line and not actually use every twist and turn in the queue.

What I wonder is if they are shutting POTC down for 2+ weeks for some sort of maintenance issue (it DOES always seem to shut down when we are there). That is a long time to close it. In a perfect Disney world, I would dream that this closure of POTC means that they will reopen it with a special surprise holiday overlay! A Pirate's Christmas - Ho Ho, Ho Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me! Now, given the sort of criminal nature of pirates, I would never put them together with a holiday theme, but if Disney can make 999 ghosts fun and lovable, and make all the macabre images of Nightmare Before Christmas happy and jolly, they can do anything! Plus, I am just eager to see a new holiday ride at Disney, and they need a long, sort of slow ride to work with to do that - and Pirates is just the right length and speed for it (minus the drops, of course)!

Good Morning Sherry !! I'd be completely down for there being an overlay in POTC, although there might be some rotten tomatoes thrown for all those die hard fans =P So I don't think they'll do it. I'm right with you on the Nightmare stuff in HM, its sooo cool. I saw it for the first time in January and I fell in love. We went on HM atleast 5 times throughout the weekend and I even got my mom to like it (and she HATES nightmare :lmao: ). Who knows though, anything can happen in the happiest place on earth :)

Good morning to you too! I assumed everyone loved the HMH, but have come to find out that is not true from reading some of the posts on this board! I like it because it is something different for a little while, but yet it will return to its original form after the first week in January. I have been on it with one BIG Nightmare fan, and another person who had never seen Nightmare and another person who was indifferent about it. They all like the holiday version because it is totally different. I mean, to tell you the truth, we had kind of burnt out on the Jungle Cruise for a while until we heard they stuck some piranha in it at the end of the ride and that got us back on it! I think what tends to happen is that, as much as we fall under the spell of the Disney magic, some people feel that if they have been on a ride 100 times, there is no need to wait in a hideous line for it now because they have already been there, done that. So, it is acually wise of Disney to add some new elements to old rides here and there, just to keep us interested! I actually got a look of boredom from a friend when I said that I wanted to go on Buzz Lightyear last year, as though she was tired of it. I was thinking, "HOW could you be tired of Buzz Lightyear when we have only been on it two times?!"

The Jack Sparrow touches to Pirates seem to make sense, but I can't help but wish they would turn that almost 15-minute boat ride into a holiday spectacle! I want to see the Pirates stealing Christmas presents and other fun stuff! But, you are right - they would probably get such a backlash for that idea that they would never do it!

I agree with you Sherry, it is kind of hard to wait in line for atleast 50 minutes when you've been on a ride at least a 100 times and it is exactly the same. I think they should continue adding things to the attractions just to keep everything fresh, while still keeping tradition. Like Walt said, "Disneyland will never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world." So the people who gripe about things being added to the parks should know that it was never intended to stay the way it is. Thats what I love about DLR. They always have imagineers thinking up and creating new and innovative things. If they happen to do a Christmas overlay in the future for POTC I will warmly welcome it and think of you while on the ride !

Add me to the list of who would like to see a holiday layover for Pirates...and to the list of those who the NBC overlay for HM. LOVE that overlay!! I'm not the biggest fan of the movie but I do love that overlay!! :) Just wanted to chime in. :)

Gail - I just noticed that and posted right above you! I am so bummed, I can't see straight. Now I get to break the news to my buddy. :sad2:

Yay :) Another fan. I've seen alot of NBC bashers on the DISboards in the past week. I'm glad we're around !!!

There are those who absolutely hate it, but not me. I think that was the best part of being an AP holder, I was able to ride NBCHM so many times...I loved it!!!!!!

YAY :) we got to ride it so many time when we visited in January. It was the best ever. That and the fact that I've never seen DLR decorated for Christmas before. All of it was amazing !! Especially HM and the Christmas fireworks on Main Street !!

I agree - I was/am not the biggest fan of the NBC movie, either, for some reason. Can't figure out why. I like it okay, I definitely like things about it, but I just haven't taken to it like I do the Pixar movies. I wonder if Pixar had taken NBC and made it themselves, maybe I would like it more! However, I agree with you and Wazowskilover - I LOVE the holiday overlay/HMH! In fact, it really becomes a whole different ride, and there is so much to look at everywhere because every inch of it has been changed, more or less! It is like a feast for the eyes - not to mention that they put new Hidden Mickeys in it just for that version! I don't think I would like it year-roudn, though. Just for a few months a year! And I love the IASW overlay because they make the exterior of the building so beautiful at night, and then, again, inside the ride is so much eye candy that you don't know where to look first and if you turn your head to one side, you might miss something on the other side.

Seeing that they sort of need to have a long, slow ride to work with for an overlay, Pirates seems ideal in that way. Sure, it is not the typical ride that comes to mind when you think 'holiday,' but Disney is very imaginative and they can find a way to make marauding & pillaging Pirates holiday-friendly. I just think it would be such a unique idea to do that. You never know - I might be underestimating Disney. Maybe that is exactly what they have up their sleeves - A Pirate's Christmas - and we all could be in for a very big surprise in a couple of years!
