Pirates of the Caribbean(MK) for kids ????

I had planned on making this attractions one of our must-do's when we finally take DS(6) to MK in May. However, after one recent thread about rides and attractons at WDW (the thread that was closed!!) I am really second guessing this...

I guess I am looking for more detailed info about POTC. I mean, I know that there are scenes of Pirates, well, being Pirates... And, that is not really a complaint. I just wonder two things...

1. Where is the 'FUN factor' for a younger child on this attraction. I guess I am afraid that most of the draw here is a lot of humor that would simply go right over my DS's head. Is there more to this ride than the humor. If some younger children are not going to appreciate the humor, wouldn't this just leave the scary undertones. Could a younger kid be thinking, that was scary and awful and I wish we hadn't spent our time riding it...

2 Also, it is like dark, noisy, etc... some possibly 'violent' scenes. Again, no complaint... but this seems like it might be the more realistic-violence than it would be cartoon-type-violence.
Could this be too much for some younger kids to handle?

Let me say again that I am not looking for any kind of 'debate'... PM's would be appreciated if you would rather give me your opinions that way.

Is DS the type that gets scared easily? If not, then I think that he will enjoy it. We just got back and we were babysitting for DBIL who was house hunting in FL. DW and I took his little girls 2 and 1 on POTC. Now the 2 yo is scared of her own shadow, but we made it fun by singing the pirate song and just having fun and she loved it.

Each child is different, but it's not really scary.

When I rode POTC when I was little, I didn't think the pirate scenes were scary or violent at all- I thought they were neat b/c they looked so realistic. The only part I thought was scary was the drop. My parents told me their was a drop and I was imagining something like Splash Mt., so that's the only thing I was worried about. -Steph

I've only been on the one in Disneyland, so I don't know if the MK one is much different. My DS(9) and DD(7) loved POTC at DL. My DD(4) was a little intimidated, but handled it alright. She is very timid and gets scared easily though, so it wasn't really a surprise. I don't think it's any worse than the violence you see in disney movies. It's all presented in typical fun disney fashion. Although there are a lot of skeletons and there are some times where it's pretty dark. Personally, it's one of my favorites and I think most 6 year olds would really enjoy it as long as they don't normally get scared easily. I think it is probably a good, fairly mild, test ride to see if he is up for rides like the haunted mansion.

Again, this is all based on my assumption that the version in MK at WDW is similar to the one at DL. If that isn't the case, someone can correct me.

Let them ride! I promise that I LOVED this ride as a child, and still do I used to hate ANY dark ride, but truly enjoyed this one. My fave was watching the pirate ship battle the fort- I LOVED all those "flying" cannonballs!
I agree with Steph about the drop. That was the only thing i was afraid of. But my parents had told me it was a baby hill, and it was a joy after that. I think I even rode it a few more times (in a row). Nothing scary about this ride. No "realistic" violence to me. It actually seems like more "cartoonish" violence-if you can even call it violence. Be sure to point out all the neat finds like the hair on the pirates leg who is sitting on the bridge; the dog holding the key in its mouth, ect.
I think it is wonderful you care enough to get insight on the ride before subjecting your DS to it.
As for the humor, well, I didn't even get that until a few years ago! LOL

Grandsons they loved it,ended up going 3 times.Took them on Snow White attraction it scared them,not super bad just dind't enjoy it I don't know if it was the witch or what.I say this only each child has things that may scare him but not others.

I was a child who was afraid of everything dark but Pirates didn't scare me in the least. It helped to be sitting between my parents who I knew would not let anything happen to me. I personally had nightmares over Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Not POTC though, great ride!

I was wondering this same thing. I have a feeling that my little one might be a bit nervous on it. I'm thinking maybe we'll take her older brother on first, and we can judge from there whether or not to take her on.

So funny!!! Me too! That is MTWR in DL not WDW. I think I only rode MTWR once in WDW before it was closed

I never rode the Matterhorn either. DH and I keep saying we will return to CA (he used to live there) and ride it the entire day! LOL!

Just make sure you look up at the feet of the pirate that's sitting on the bridge above you near the end of the ride.
That's the scariest part of all!

My DS was not yet 3 when he rode in Sept and he liiked it, not his favorite, but he is into Pirates. He also liked the Norwegen boat ride thing in Epcot - he thought that was pirates too, and he loved playing with other kids on the big ship outside.

Maybe you could find a download website and find the song so he could learn it before he goes too.
