Pirates of the Caribbean auction scene to change

This is getting off topic, but the civil war was one of the single most important events in our nation's history. The south seceded for several reasons, slavery being just one. Honoring the people who died valiantly on both sides (the VAST majority of whom did not own slaves) is not an endorsement of slavery - it is an acknowledgement of history.

Not going there. :) Let's leave this back to topic.

A serious question to anyone who supports changing this ride: do you also support dismantelling Small World, or do you support what is clearly racism and cultural appropriation by today's PC standards?

I don't know. I'm Irish. The Irish scene doesn't offend me, except that is too small :)

But seriously, I can't really speak to how the other scenes make people of other races/ethnicities feel. I would believe them if they said something did offend them though.

And this kind of PC snowflake whining and garbage is why they are changing and ruining yet another part of this ride and probably more to come. Eventually they will get rid of the rum and the drunk pirates and it will just turn into It's a Small World. Pirates were drunks who killed and stole and raped and all of the other horrible things that goes with being a pirate. If you are going to have a Pirates ride it should be a tiny bit realistic in a family friendly way which I believe it already was.

It's a ride at a theme park. Chill...

Let's play a game...name a Disney ride or attraction that is not offensive to someone. If we're going down this road, let's just knock down the whole damn place.

Exactly. Some people are acting like it is something that has major impact on their everyday life.
Except when you find yourself saying this multiple times per day eventually you just get sick of it.

Let's play this game...name a ride that has a line of women tied up with ropes waiting to be sold off to men who are going to....well, I'll leave that out

I can't imagine why Disney wants to clean up this scene

Just do a quick google search and you'll see plenty of people who are offended by Small World. Who are you to judge that they're wrong?

Here's an idea: how about we stop trying to sanitize history? How about we stand up to the PC bullies and say "this is a historic ride. You may be offended by this today, but it was ok back then. If you want to be offended by history that's your right, but you don't get to erase history."

These are the same nut jobs demanding that confederate monuments be torn down. And Disney is appeasing them. I'm very much an anti-slavery, union kind of guy - but I am also anti-sanitizing history.

But this isn't a historical piece. It's not an educational piece. This isn't the Smithsonian. Shoot, it's not even Epcot.
Maybe it doesn't make sense to a lot but of people to think it should change. I'm no shrinking violet, but I am having a hard time understanding why people value nostalgia over rejecting trafficking.

Duh...Pirates of the Caribbean...Aren't you a Disney fan?

lchuck (I'm assuming you're a guy based on your name and profile pic, correct me if I am wrong)

Maybe acknowledge that this might be something that you can't quite understand 100%. It doesn't mean you are wrong.

I'm not saying that every woman is bothered by this. But I don't think it's that outrageous that Disney wants to sanitize it a bit

Because every single ride and attraction has something that is offensive to someone, so where do you draw the line?
