Okay, this is really baffling me. Yesterday, I was in McDonald's with my ds and they were putting up "Pirates of the Caribbean" posters in nearly every window. The Happy Meal toy through the end of July are the SEGA handheld games, so what's the deal? Why would McDonalds be advertising the movie SO heavily if they didn't have a tie-in?
BTW, we saw POTC last night and LOVED it! After reading reviews, my expectations were high and I wasn't let down. What a fun summer movie! At 43, am I still allowed to think that Johnny Depp's character was extremely...appealing?
Thanks,
Karla B.;)

I know what you mean about the McD's tie in - it just isn't there. Last night we saw a McD's commercial touting POC and the Big Mac. What is the connection? No special Pirate sauce, no Pirate "dicount" - absolutely nothing to tie a Big Mac to POC. Fine if Disney wants to use McD's to spread word on POC, but at least they should have it make some kind of sense.

In our region, we are starting 2 for 3 Macs. Also, we are doing a "the gold you seek is the golden fries" promotion. Their may be more, but thats all the POS I could get.

Hmmm, so maybe there's going to be some sweepstakes/contest promotion to tie in with the movie? I know that in the face of world problems, this is quite small, but it's just been bugging me!!!!:p
Thanks,
Karla

Maybe drinking glasses for purchase at some point?

You said it perfectly! That's exactly what my sister and I have been wondering - there's no connection between Big Mac and PotC, besides that commercial of course. I hope somebody figures out this mystery!

I'm glad that you brought this up. I saw the McD's commercial too where they said see "Pirates" and also eat a Big Mac with no mention of a tie in. OK, whatever.

But even worse to me is the lack of Pirates stuff in the Disney Store. That's disappointing to me.

While DS loves the SEGA games, he is very disappointed that there aren't any cool PotC items in the Happy Meals. He figured that since they did Nemo, they'd do PotC as well. He loves the pirate gear we purchased at WDW and was hoping for more! Oh, well.

Being that PotC is PG-13 I wouldn't think McD's would have PotC toys in their kids meals.
But you would think they would have some sort of game piece???

Me, the mother of older children (17 and 11), am the collector
of Happy Meal toys and I am also disappointed. Of course the
kids like the games, but I need Disney toys. I keep all Happy
Meal toys is my office and whenever small children come in
with their parents, they LOVE playing with these toys. I didn't
get all the Nemo toys and was very disappointed.

While many children may not get to see PotC movie, the idea of pirates (esp. to boys) is always fun. Most children, even if they don't know about the movie, do know about pirates, so even if they didn't see the movie, they could play creatively w/the toys! Monoculars, treasure map, compass, gold coins, model of The Black Pearl ... those are items all kids can creatively play with, without having seen the film.

Yeah, but read the other threads on the rating on this board. If they cross-promoted with toys in happy meals Disney could be (correctly) said to be promoting a PG-13 movie to the toddler set, which is something they should want to avoid.

They could at least tie it in with the fries. "The gold you seek, etc."

Have pull tabs on the fries holders with a hidden fortune to win.
I thought it odd too that there was absolutely no tie in.
